The Yellowstone and the Rockies region of Western USA features some of the most dramatic scenery in the country, from soaring mountains and tranquil lakes to incredible desert rock formations. Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, the Dakotas and Colorado are the real Wild West, where you’ll be reaching for your cowboy boots!

Learn about Native American history and the bygone days of the old west, drive the spectacular Going-to-the-Sun-Road in Montana and see the impressive Mount Rushmore. For those ready to hit the slopes, visit Colorado and Wyoming between December to April for excellent snow and charming mountain resorts. Read on for some of the best things to do in Yellowstone and the Rockies.

Denver

Denver is an excellent starting point for your Rockies adventure. The city is home to fascinating museums, a thriving brewery scene and picturesque parks, including the Denver Botanic Gardens. Wander through Latimer Square to admire the distinct Victorian buildings, visit Cherry Creek for a fantastic array of shops or watch a world-class show at Red Rocks amphitheatre.

Enjoy a drink or a fancy meal at Union Station, a beautifully restored 19th Century train station or take a stroll through the colourful RiNo Art District, with its large murals and plenty of quirky cafés and breweries to choose from. Round off your visit with a baseball game at Coors Field in downtown Denver.

Yellowstone National Park

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park became the world’s first national parks. Famed for its astonishing geothermal landscape, Yellowstone is one of the country’s most impressive wilderness areas. Follow boardwalks and maintained trails to witness hot springs, mudpots, fumaroles, and geysers up close. The park has the world's largest concentration of geysers and contains half of the world's geothermal features.

One of the best things to do in Yellowstone is driving the Grand Loop Road and discovering the magnificent waterfall at the ‘Grand Canyon of Yellowstone’, the vivid waters of Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful geyser’s famously regular eruptions.

Keep your eyes peeled as Yellowstone is also home to an array of wildlife including buffalo, elk, bears and even the elusive wolf.

From Jackson, head north to discover the spectacular scenery of Grand Teton National Park. Explore the rugged mountains and alpine lakes on a hike or scenic drive and look out for moose, buffalo and even bears and bald eagles.

In northern Montana, Glacier National Park is one of the state's main attractions. Here, you will find towering mountains, deep valleys and crystal clear lakes. Soak up the mesmerising vistas from one of the park's many hiking trails or take a scenic drive along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
