Best Time to Visit Bangkok

Bangkok is one of those cities that never really slows down. Markets buzz with activity from morning until night, temples glow at sunset, street food sizzles in every alley – and somehow it works year-round. Still, when you visit Bangkok can make a big difference to how enjoyable (and comfortable!) your trip feels.

Read on for our guide to the best time to visit Bangkok, to help you make the most of your time in Thailand’s vibrant capital.

Bangkok’s climate – what you’re dealing with

Bangkok has a tropical climate which means it’s hot most of the year, with humidity playing a major role in how it feels.

Bangkok has three main seasons: cool season from November to February, hot season from March to May, and rainy (monsoon) season from June to October.

Temperatures rarely drop below 25°C, but humidity, rainfall and air quality vary depending on the month.

The best time to visit Bangkok (overall)

November to February is the sweet spot. If you want the most comfortable time to visit Bangkok, this is it!

Why this is the best time to visit Bangkok:

• Lower humidity and cooler evening

• Less rain and clearer skies

• Ideal for walking, sightseeing, and rooftop bars

• Peak season for local festivals and events.

Average daytime temperatures hover between 28°C to 32°C, which feels noticeably better than other times of year. If it’s your first time visiting Bangkok, then these months are hard to beat.

Visiting Bangkok by season

Hot season (March to May)

This is Bangkok at its most intense! Temperatures often exceed 35°C (although the high humidity can make it feel even hotter), and midday sightseeing can be exhausting. However, there are fewer tourists at this time of the year, better deals on accommodation, and Songkran (Thai new year) falls in mid-April which turns the city into one big water fight!

If you’re planning on travelling to Bangkok at this time of year, plan your sightseeing for early morning or evening, use malls, cafés and temples as ‘aircon breaks’, and stay near a BTS or MRT station to avoid long walks in the heat.

Rainy Season (June to October)

The word ‘monsoon’ can scare people off, but in Bangkok the rain generally comes in short heavy bursts, not all-day downpours.

Visiting Bangkok during the rainy season is underrated; there’s lush greenery and dramatic skies, fewer crowds at temples and markets, and lower priced accommodation. If you don’t mind adjusting your plans to accommodate the weather, then this can be a good time to visit Bangkok. Just don’t forget your raincoat!

January and February are often considered to be the best months to visit Bangkok, with pleasant temperatures, low rainfall, and lively city energy.

It can be, especially in April and May. However, with early starts, air-conditioned transport and breaks indoors, many travellers still enjoy visiting this time of year.

No. Rain normally falls in short intense bursts, often in the afternoon or evening. Many days are still bright and sunny.

Is Bangkok expensive during peak season?

Compared to many global cities, Bangkok remains good value. However, hotel prices generally rise between November and February, especially over the Christmas period.
