The most famous of the Greek islands, Santorini will not disappoint! This unique island formed by volcanic eruptions has created spectacular vistas of the iconic caldera. Many stylish boutique hotels have been carved into the rock face terraced down the cliffside for privacy and luxury. For the best sunset views stay in ancient village of Oia on the island’s northern tip. Imerovigli and Fira are also popular for those seeking sleek hotels, fine dining and unrivalled sunsets. Alternatively, head to the east coast to find volcanic-sand beaches and lovely resorts.
In the southwestern corner of the Cyclades you’ll find Milos. Much like Santorini, its landscape has been carved by its volcanic past, and the island is dotted with mysterious lunar landscapes, hot springs and sea caves all waiting to be explored. This laidback island is the perfect place to relax by turquoise waters at one of the island’s 70 stunning beaches!
Lively Ios is located between Santorini, Paros and Naxos and offers a plethora of excellent beaches and a relaxed vibe with legendary nightlife, much like its northern neighbour Mykonos. For those who prefer a more peaceful break, Ios is also home to sleepy villages and labyrinths of whitewashed houses. The most well-known attraction on the island is the Tomb of Homer, the supposed burial place of the Greek poet and author.
Picturesque Paros is quieter than many of its neighbours, with the hustle and bustle concentrated around its capital, Parikia and the vibrant village of Naoussa. These quintessential Cycladic towns are lined with whitewashed buildings and boast busy market streets, lively tavernas and varied nightlife. Paros also offers miles of golden coastline and is a haven for kite surfers! If time allows, take the ferry to glamourous Antiparos for the day.
The largest of the Cycladic islands boasts endless coastlines of fine white sand, mythical monuments and lush green valleys. Naxos’ beaches are considered amongst the finest in Greece! Wander around the traditional whitewashed buildings of the old town, overlooked by the imposing medieval castle and wander to Potara, the unfinished temple of Apollo. Outdoor enthusiasts can opt for a scenic hike to the peak of mount Zas, the highest peak in the Cyclades and the mythical childhood home of Zeus!
Iconic for its windmills, Mykonos boasts beauty, glamour and a vibrant culture. The island is scattered with an array of golden sand beaches, perfect for a dip in the calm, crystal clear sea. Psarou Beach is perhaps the chicest of them all, with trendy beach bars and super yachts moored in the waters. The alluring old town is full of colour and charm and offers a number of delightful spots to sip a cocktail and watch the sunset.
Just a short boat ride away from Mykonos lies elegant Syros, known as the ‘Queen of the Cyclades’. Discover the vibrant capital of Ermoupoli with its picturesque harbour and remarkable Neoclassical architecture. A must-see for your time here is the picturesque hilltop village of Ano Syros, located just above Ermoupoli, from which you can see gorgeous panoramic views. The village seems straight out of a postcard with its labyrinth of narrow alleyways, whitewashed houses with colourful bougainvillea and charming squares. Spend time basking in the sun on one of the many beautiful beaches on the island and swim in its crystal clear waters.
Nestled in the heart of the Aegean Sea, Tinos Island remains one of Greece's best-kept secrets. While its more famous neighbour, Mykonos steals the spotlight, Tinos quietly captivates visitors with its serene beauty, rich cultural heritage, and authentic Greek charm. Discover this unspoilt haven, a true hidden gem amongst the Greek islands with beautiful untouched beaches, plenty of walking trails and traditional Greek villages.
While some of these islands have airports, the best way to explore is by high-speed ferry. With connections between every island and onward to Crete, an almost endless number of island combinations can be achieved! Check out the routes below:
