After touching down in Bari, begin your 7 days in Puglia by picking up your car before driving to Matera, located just beyond the Puglia border. Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is full of magical alleyways, courtyards and viewpoints. After settling into your hotel, sip a refreshing Aperol Spritz from your balcony, taking in the vista.
Follow in the footsteps of James Bond’s most recent cinematic adventure in No Time to Die, getting lost down charming streets in Italy’s city of stone. In the afternoon, visit the incredible 9,000 year old cave houses that reflect the historical way of life in the area.
After a leisurely morning, admire the city’s unique architecture with a visit to some of the impressive cave churches of Matera, impressively built into the stone, rather than from it. Step inside for some respite from the heat and wonder at the frescoes inside. Afterwards, enjoy a gelato in the delightful Piazza Vittorio Veneto.
Rise early to visit the enchanting town of Alberobello, seemingly straight out of a fairy-tale. A day trip here will be absorbed by discovering the famous Trulli buildings, with their incredible limestone bases and conical roofs. There is even a trullo church which takes on this unique architectural style. Arrive at your resort in Fasano for the evening.
Find yourself on the stunning Puglia coast, with its rugged cliffs, sandy beaches and delightful seaside eateries. Enjoy a peaceful boat trip in the morning, sending you out into the crystal-clear waters. Jump in the sea for a snorkel, and afterwards soak up the warm rays of the Italian sunshine on the beach.
For a flavour of Puglia countryside, take a guided bike tour through the ancient olive groves nearby. In the evening, take part in a wine-tasting tour, or, for those keen to discover just how the food can be so sumptuous, a mouth-watering Puglia cookery class. The perfect ending to your 7 days in Puglia.
After an Italian cappuccino, return to Bari airport for your onwards travels. If you have more time, why not extend your stay with a visit to Polignano a Mare, a striking 4th Century town atop limestone cliffs, conveniently situated between Fasano and Bari airport.
