Sabi Sabi Selati Camp is well-manicured and has an authentic safari lodge style with antiques and traditional décor found throughout, which immerses guests in the traditional safari experience. The camp is unfenced so guests can expect plenty of animals visiting daily – you may even spot elephants sampling the pool water!

Sabi Sabi Selati Camp’s communal areas include a fantastic viewing deck with unparalleled vistas of the watering hole located 200 meters away, a few dining areas, a lounge that overlooks the pool, a mini boma (outdoor dining area), and indoor bar and lounge, and a boutique.

Each of the seven suites are very private and modern, with traditional design touches and a thatched roof. All are named after bygone railway stations and decorated with memorabilia from rail museums and antique stores. The sizing is generous too; each suite boasts a large bathroom and an additional outdoor area with a shower and bath. There is also a lovely terrace which overlooks the bush.

All meals at Sabi Sabi Selati Camp are à la carte and comprise of multiple courses. The chef will come to your table each night and run through the menu but always offers to make anything you desire if the menu doesn’t suit. The food is substantial, high quality, and focuses on traditional, local produce.

There is no set dining area, meaning the location of meals changes throughout your stay, so you can enjoy bush breakfasts, dinners under the stars, and lunches on the game viewing deck.

The level of service offered is truly extraordinary with managers welcoming you back after all safaris, the restaurant and bar staff are lovely and provide fantastic recommendations, and the chef is just a delight, cooking up a wide range of delectable dishes.

The safari guides and drivers’ knowledge of the area is an extremely high level, with one of the trackers having been at Sabi Sabi for over 35 years and seemed to know every blade of grass!

I can wholeheartedly say that safaris at Sabi Sabi Selati Camp are phenomenal. Game drive vehicles are spacious and ensure all passengers have a window seat for prime visibility, with a maximum of four passengers when the capacity is six. In addition, there will never be more than three vehicles at any sighting, and the fantastic radio coordination means you’re unlikely to miss anything.

On my game drives, we saw lions most days, as well as elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas, hippos, and a pack of hyenas. Sabi Sabi Game Reserve also has the highest population of leopards in Africa, so we were fortunate to see them every day! The birdlife was also prominent, with over 100 species spotted over three days.

Night safaris were spellbinding, once we followed a pride of lions hunting and saw a hyena chase a leopard up a tree. The walking safaris were also incredible; you can really discover anything on your walks and the guides are well-equipped to ensure your safety always remains permanent. Each day our guide would also find the most beautiful place in the reserve to enjoy the sunset with a glass of sparkling wine.
