Iceland’s Golden Circle offers breathtaking vistas, incredible erupting geysers and hot spring rivers, ideal for a relaxing soak. Visit Gullfoss Falls, with rainbows rising through its glistening spray, and stand between two of the earth’s tectonic plates as the land pulls itself apart at Thingvellir National Park. The Golden Circle is a must-visit destination and one of the best places to visit in Iceland.
Iceland’s capital Reykjavik offers the perfect introduction to the country; a small vibrant city located within easy reach of some of the world’s most spectacular geothermal wonders. Home to striking architecture, impressive sculptures and colourful buildings, Reykjavik has plenty of attractions waiting to be uncovered.
Famous for its steaming, mineral-rich geothermal waters, the Blue Lagoon is a fabulous location for a rejuvenating spa escape and is one of the best places to visit in Iceland. The high silica content of the water creates its iconic milky-blue colour which contrasts beautifully against the otherworldly surrounding landscape of black lava fields.
Known as the ‘capital of the north’, Akureyri is a charming town set on a scenic fjord offering streets lined with colourful houses, shops and cafés. Akureyri also makes a great base for exploring the dramatic waterfalls, fishing villages and the spectacular geothermal sights of the 155 mile Diamond Circle route.
In the heart of Iceland lies a largely uninhabited wilderness spanning over 9.8 million acres. Replete with mountains, glaciers and lava fields, this area is best explored via its scenic hiking trails. This is one of the best places to visit in Iceland for adventurous travellers, and this remote region is only accessible in the summer months with a 4WD vehicle.
Iceland’s ring road winds its way in an 820-mile loop around the country, passing through picture-postcard villages and impressive rugged scenery. Along the way the route takes in some of Iceland’s most picturesque sights including black sand beaches, glacier lagoons, charming fishing villages and gushing waterfalls.
