Unique Accommodation of Lapland

Imagine falling asleep watching the playful dances of the Northern Lights above your head, or catching a glimpse of the Milky Way amongst a dark blanket of stars, or settling down on your bed of ice for the night. A stay in Lapland is truly an incredible experience!

Here are some once in a lifetime stays in Lapland.

Glass Igloos

What better way to watch the Northern Lights dance across the sky than from the comforts of your own bed. Glass Igloos are such a unique experience, and on a clear night, open the doors to the night sky filled with stars and anticipation of the Northern Lights. The glass domes are heated so that any frost or snow will melt, and the igloo’s aurora alarms will alert you of aurora sightings, a fantastic hotel feature ensuring that you cannot miss them!

Snow Rooms

Each year the Snow Hotel is built with new and inventive sculptures and carvings that are a delight to marvel. Experiencing a night in one of these magical snow rooms is truly special. While in Lapland the temperature can drop as low as -30 °C, the snow rooms never go below -5 degrees for a surprising comfortable sleep. The hotel will explain how your stay will work and you are given all the gear you need for the night including thermal sleeping bags for you to use atop your ice bedframe and mattress. Remember to pack some good thermals (I'd always recommend merino wool) as it's recommended to only sleep in these, socks and a hat. This is to ensure that you use your body heat to warm up whilst in the sleeping bag. Odd as it sounds, the more clothing you have on, the less warm you will be! But what about the bathrooms? Are they made of ice too? Don't worry, heated bathrooms are available in a building close by, so you only use your snow room to sleep in!

Panoramic delights

While they may not be made out of snow or have glass ceilings, accommodation which offers large panoramic windows to the snowy forest are just as memorable. Waking up to pink glows over the never-ending line of pine trees brings an overwhelming sense of peace and is the perfect way to begin a day of winter activities. Again, there is always opportunity to spot the Northern Lights. From luxurious suites with private saunas to cosy huts dotted along the forest edge. A stay in Lapland is focussed on exploring the outdoors, and many accommodations aim to connect you more with nature.

Cabins

A cabin surrounded by snow may feel like something out of a fairytale, this option offers great escapism with freedom to prepare your own meals, cosy up by a log fire and unwind in your own private sauna. Plus its an excellent option for families or larger groups with room to accommodate up to six people. Have fun in the snow, maybe hire some skis and make use of the nearby ski slopes or enjoy walks along trails into the wilderness.
