Why stay here? Central location, easy transit access, and tons of shopping and dining options.
If it’s your first time in San Francisco and you want to be near all the action, Union Square is a solid home base. You’ll be within walking distance of the Powell Street cable car, public transportation and major shopping spots. It’s bustling, touristy and modern.
Keep in mind: It’s busy and can feel gritty at night. If you’re expecting quiet and laid-back, this might not be your spot.
Why stay here? Kid-friendly attractions, walkable and packed with touristy charm.
Fisherman’s wharf if ideal if you’re travelling with kids or want that postcard-perfect view of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate. There are tons of attractions nearby like Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, and the Exploratorium.
Keep in mind: Locals generally steer clear of this area – it’s crowded and not super authentic. But for convenience, it’s great.
Why stay here? Iconic architecture, historic hotels, cable car access and sweeping city views.
Nob Hill is where old-school San Francisco elegance meets modern city life. Think grand mansions, luxury apartment buildings, and historic landmarks like Grace Cathedral and the Fairmont Hotel. You’ll get that classic SF feeling – fog rolling in over Victorian rooftops, cable cars climbing steep hills, and twinkling skyline views at night.
Keep in mind: Those famous hills are no joke – pack comfy shoes!
Why stay here? Historic charm, great restaurants, Italian cafés and close to San Francisco’s landmarks.
Known as San Francisco’s ‘Little Italy’, North Beach is full of character. You’ll be close to Coit Tower, Washington Square Park, and can walk to Chinatown, the Embarcadero and Telegraph Hill.
Keep in mind: It’s a little hilly (but hey it’s San Francisco!)
Why stay here? Vibrant street art, a diverse food scene and great nightlife.
If you want the artsy, offbeat, local side of SF, the Mission it is. There’s an endless line up of taquerias, murals, dive bars and indie shops. It’s also one of the sunniest parts of the city (yes, weather can vary by neighbourhood here!)
Keep in mind: Some blocks feel super hip and others less polished.
Why stay here? Quirky, colourful and full of counterculture history.
Want to walk in the footsteps of the 1960s? The Haight is iconic for a reason. Vintage shops, record stores, and a chill, eclectic vibe define this area. Plus, it borders Golden Gate Park.
Keep in mind: It’s not super central, so plan on getting the bus or taking taxis more to get around.
