Set in the mystic northwest coast of the USA, Oregon is where the Rockies meets the Pacific Ocean. Hot springs, dunes, snow-capped peaks, sandy beaches and verdant forests – it’s a melting pot of dramatic scenery.

The stunning landscapes are cut with historic towns, sleepy fishing villages, ski resorts and wineries. There’s so much to discover, so read on for our guide to the seven regions of Oregon, to help you plan your next trip to the state.

1. The Coast

From dramatic rock formations to churning whirlpools and miles and miles of sandy beaches, Oregon’s entire coastline is full of amazing natural wonders along with a host of museums, historic homes and lighthouses, all capturing the history of the state. You will also find the rare and incredible Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area which includes 32,000 acres of shifting sand dunes, rising to 385 feet high in a Sahara Desert like atmosphere.

Some of the state’s best camping parks are on the edge of the ocean, as are recreational opportunities galore including whale watching, fishing, golfing, surfing and hiking.
