Fiji enjoys a tropical marine climate, characterised by warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the year. The weather is mostly divided into two main seasons…
Weather: This period is widely regarded as the best time to visit Fiji. The dry season brings cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and less rainfall. Average temperatures range from 23˚C to 30˚C, making it the ideal time for outdoor activities.
Activities: With calm seas and clear skies, this is the perfect time for snorkelling, scuba diving, and exploring Fiji’s rich marine life. The dry season is also a great time for hiking, island hopping and enjoying colourful cultural festivals.
Crowds: As this is Fiji’s peak tourist season, popular resorts and attractions can be busy. Booking accommodation and tours in advance is advised.
Weather: The wet season, also known as the cyclone season, sees higher temperatures ranging from 25˚C to 31˚C and increased humidity. Rainfall is more frequent, with the possibility of tropical storms and cyclones.
Activities: Despite the rain, there are plenty of indoor and water activities to enjoy. The wet season offers lush, green landscapes, impressive waterfalls, and fewer crowds.
Advantages: Travelling during the wet season can be more budget-friendly, with lower accommodation rates and fewer tourists. If you’re looking for a more peaceful experience, this could be the perfect time to visit Fiji.
Festivals & Events: Fiji’s cultural calendar is filled with vibrant festivals that offer an insight into the local way of life. The Bula Festival in July and the Hibiscus Festival in August are two of the most popular events, featuring parades, music, dance, and traditional ceremonies.
Marine Life: Fiji’s underwater world is a major draw for divers and snorkellers. The manta ray season runs from May to October, offering a chance to swim with these gentle giants. Additionally, the coral spawning season occurs in October and November, creating a magnificent underwater display.
Book Early: If you plan on visiting Fiji during the dry season, especially from June to August, it’s wise to book your flights and accommodations well in advance to secure the best options.
Local Customs: Embrace Fiji’s famous warm hospitality by participating in a traditional kava ceremony and learning about local customs and etiquette.
Stay Hydrated!: Fiji’s tropical climate can be very warm and humid, especially during the wet season. Always carry a water bottle and drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, particularly if you’re engaging in outdoor activities.
Book a Fabulous Resort: Facilities like a refreshing pool, watersports and spa facilities can enhance your trip! TF recommends First Landing Beach Resort & Villas and Matamanoa Island Resort.
