Matamanoa Island Resort

Matamanoa Island Resort is super chilled and exactly what I thought a Fijian resort would be like. There’s nothing else on the island so feels very secluded. I would recommend the Sunset Beachfront Pool Bures – they’re really spacious with a decent pool, plus the sunset beach is quiet with great views. The food was good quality, though everything is on ‘Fiji time’ which essentially means don’t expect anything to happen quickly! Breakfast is à la carte, and food is good value overall. Staff are all local and very welcoming.

The spa is lovely; all set into the trees with amazing views for a massage and just the sounds of the birds and the sea. You can hike to the top of the island as well for some great views – I recommend doing this just before sunset.

Top tip: If you’re there on a Thursday book the excursion to Cloud 9, a fun floating pontoon with a bar, wood-fired pizzas and a DJ. Take snorkelling equipment and a towel with you.
