Phuket has three main seasons: dry season (November to April), green season (May to October), and peak season (December to February). Each season comes with its own advantages and things to consider.
Why visit?
The weather is warm and dry with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 34°C.
Clear blue skies and calm seas make it the perfect time to visit Phuket for beach lovers, snorkelling, diving and island-hopping.
It’s the ideal time to visit famous beaches like Patong, Kata, and Freedom Beach.
Festivals and events
Loy Krathong (November): a magical festival where lanterns illuminate the water.
New Years Eve (31 December): expect lively beach parties and fireworks.
Songkran (13-15 April): Thailand’s famous water festival, where the streets turn into a massive water flight!
Things to consider
This is high season, so expect crowds – particularly in December and January.
Hotels and flights can be priced higher at this time of year – book as early as possible to secure the best deals.
Why visit?
Fewer tourists mean cheaper hotels, flights and excursions.
You’ll enjoy lush green landscapes and stunning waterfalls due to the occasional rains.
This is the best time to visit for surfing, particularly on Kata and Kalim beaches.
Things to consider
This is the monsoon season so expect short but heavy tropical downpours.
The sea can be rough so swimming can be dangerous – look out for red flags on the beaches.
Some smaller islands and boat tours might be limited due to weather conditions.
Why visit?
This period offers the best weather – low humidity, sunny days and comfortable temperatures.
It’s a great time to visit for luxury travellers, honeymoons and families looking for the perfect tropical escape.
Water activities like diving at the Similan Islands and sailing are at their best.
Things to consider
Phuket is at its busiest so expect crowded beaches and higher prices.
Book accommodations and tours in advance to avoid disappointment.
For perfect weather and beach activities: December to March.
For fewer crowds and lower prices: May to October.
For festivals and cultural experiences: November and April.
