Venturing into the Great Bear Rainforest is incredibly gratifying as it’s an ideal location to spot known and unknown bear species. This region inhabits over half of Canada’s population of grizzly bears, a quarter of the countries black bears as well as the rare White Kermode (Spirit) bear. Stay at Great Bear Lodge for boat excursions, rainforest walks and the chance to spot some of these wonderful animals roam free in a breath-taking uninterrupted environment.
In all environments, land, air and sea, Canada homes some of the world’s most impressive wildlife, with one of the most sort after sightings being the magnificent whale. Almost daily from April to October, whale watching trips set out by zodiac or covered boat with the mighty Orca as their focus. In the province of British Columbia there are many places to go whale watching such as Victoria, Campbell River and Tofino to name a view, alongside other mammals including seal, porpoise and river otters.
The Canadian wilderness is aplenty with equestrian, marine based and land based activities, and at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge you can experience a selection of them all. From the thrill of canyoning at Bedwell Canyon and the affinity of horseback riding through secluded areas of the forest, to the excitement of boarding a zodiac boat in search of whales and bears - discover these intimate tours whilst staying in a luxurious lodge.
This is an ideal spot to encounter alternative wilderness and wildlife throughout the summer months just prior to peak bear season. Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is just a short flight from Vancouver and a great place to sight moose, bald eagles and mountain goats. The flora, fauna and ecology of the area’s unique rainforest, and the spectacular surrounding scenery are also a must see.
If you’re interested in connecting with nature and completely disconnecting from your day to day life, a stay at Klahoose Wilderness Resort is the perfect opportunity. The off the beaten track resort generates its own power supply and produces energy to supply the region. The main aim is to preserve and conserve their ocean, wildlife, wilderness and local community through meaningful initiatives so that this beautiful region can be enjoyed by generations to come.
During any Canadian adventure, it’s often thought that the journey is just as spectacular as the destination, as most lodges and resorts are accessed by picturesque boat rides or scenic flights. For an even more epic way to travel you can also consider a seaplane! The Victoria Seaplane Experience is extremely fun with a bird’s eye view of Vancouver Island - not something that is easily forgotten.
For the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, the Tofino Hot Springs Adventure is a must. Cross into another world during an hour long boat trip to Hot Springs Cove and encounter a series of stairs and boardwalks throughout the temperate rainforest, before soaking in the natural thermal hot pools.
