Combining multiple holidays into one and only having to unpack once, cruises are a relaxing and convenient way to see the world. From island hopping around the Caribbean whilst sipping cocktails to epic once in a lifetime adventures to the ends of the earth polar regions… there's a cruise for everyone! Here is an overview of our 10 favourite cruise destinations, to help you plan your next cruise holiday.

1. Alaska

Known as The Last Frontier, Alaska is a vast wilderness of an immeasurable amount of beauty, nature and wildlife. Alaska cruises will typically start from cities like Vancouver or Seattle and travel through the stunning Glacier Bay National Park, cruise the Inside Passage, Tracy Arm Fjord and encounter a range of incredible wildlife from orcas to bears and eagles to moose.  


 

2. The Mediterranean

With historic cities, hidden coves and incredible food, the Mediterranean offers a unique opportunity to combine history, culture, beaches and areas of outstanding natural beauty making it a very attractive destination. Plus there are plenty of cruises departing from Southampton and most are short flights, meaning it couldn’t be easier!


 

3. Hawaii

Lush forests, tropical beaches and majestic volcanoes are a few of the highlights you will experience from this world famous archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Cruising around the dramatic coastline of the Hawaiian Islands is the best way to see as much as possible and will involve experiencing Polynesian traditions, admiring the surf at Waikiki Beach and exciting volcano excursions.


 

4. The Galapagos Islands

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and a renowned National Park, the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador is a magical destination like no other! Wildlife such as marine iguana, giant tortoise, fur seal and penguins are in abundance and due to the lack of predators you are able to get extremely close to these incredible creatures without phasing them. Throw in some breathtaking landscapes and numerous land and sea excursions from lava hiking to snorkelling to complete your once-in-a-lifetime trip in this enchanting archipelago.


 

5. Norwegian Fjords

Probably one of the easiest destinations to cruise to with many departures from Southampton, describing Norway’s majestic fjords as spectacular would be an understatement. Visit quaint fishing villages, marvel at towering mountain peaks, astonishing fjords and powerful waterfalls. Choose between the lush green scenery of summer or the mesmerising northern lights in winter, both a great time of year to take a Norwegian Fjords cruise.


 

6. Antarctica

A continent truly like no other, Antarctica is home to a huge array of wildlife including vast penguin rookeries, inquisitive seals and numerous species of whale. Classic Antarctica cruises generally depart from Ushuaia on the very southern tip of Argentina and travel to the Antarctic Peninsula & South Shetlands. Longer Antarctic expeditions may also visit the biologically diverse Falkland Islands & South Georgia. Activities are split between zodiac boat rides through sculpted icebergs and shore excursions along the Antarctic Peninsula, where you will encounter some of the most extreme environments on earth!


 

7. Mekong River

The longest river in Southeast Asia meandering for 2,700 miles through six different countries, it is the lifeline for more than 60 million people and supports one of the most diverse fisheries in the world. Yet it remains surprisingly undeveloped, featuring beautiful natural scenery and excellent biodiversity. Excursions can include historic temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, sleepy riverside Vietnamese villages and hectic Ho Chi Minh City.


 

8. The Caribbean

The epitome of cruise destinations, the idyllic islands of the Caribbean consists of numerous nations boasting azure waters, white sandy beaches and each country has its own distinct colourful character. Imagine laid back Jamaican rum shacks, aromatic Grenadian spice tours, historic Barbadian fortresses, renowned cuisine, and endless snorkelling opportunities whilst waking up in a new country every day! A handful of the many reasons why it is such a popular cruise destination…


 

9. Australia

Australia is perfect for cruising with sun-drenched cities, misty mountains and virgin rainforest located right by the coast, allowing maximum time onshore. An Australia cruise holiday provides the opportunity to explore treasures such as the Kimberley, Tasmania, Sydney Harbour and the incomparable Great Barrier Reef. The peak summer months of December through to February are often the most popular months to cruise in Australia.


 

10. High Arctic of Svalbard

The remote Svalbard archipelago, known as the Kingdom of the polar bear, in between mainland Norway and the North Pole is the gateway to the Arctic. Inhabited by polar bears, walruses, sea lions, reindeer and the Arctic fox, set amongst the spectacular scenery of the Arctic desert, glaciers, mountains and fjords and if you are lucky (depending on the season) there may be an opportunity to admire the northern lights. No wonder it is a tourist draw for adventurers and wildlife lovers!
