Day 1 Durban to Isandlwana
Pick up your car at Durban airport and head north to the legendary battle site at Isandlwana. Boasting an incredible setting with spectacular rolling hills, make sure you enjoy some of the nature activities on offer at your lodge including game walks, horse riding, hiking and mountain biking. Additionally, take time to indulge in some delicious cuisine or simply relax and enjoy the stunning views.
Days 2-3 Isandlwana
The Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 is infamous for the great battles of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift and form an integral part of the nation’s diverse history. As you join a gripping guided tour of the battlefields, listen in wonder as amazing storytellers bring to life the sweep of immense battles and terrible personal tragedies to life that ensued.
Days 4-5 Isandlwana to Nambiti PGR
This morning, you’ll have time to explore over 60 battle sites, museums and old forts in the area en route to the wonderfully scenic Nambiti Private Game Reserve. Here you have two nights to savour game drives in search of the iconic Big 5 with the aid of an expert guide. You’ll also have time to indulge in a relaxing spa treatment or enjoy sundowners around the camp fire under the stars.
Day 6 Nambiti PGR to Spioenkop GR
After a final morning game activity, continue on to your lodge near Ladysmith. A range of activities are available over the coming days, from nature trails and birding to rhino tracking and hot air ballooning.
Day 7 Spioenkop GR
Today, why not head out and explore the nearby Drakensberg Mountains. Stretching impressively for over 600 miles, they form the highest mountain range in South Africa and are listed as a World Heritage Site due to the biodiversity of flora, fauna and ancient sandstone caves found there.
Day 8 Spioenkop GR
The three year Anglo-Boer conflict was the longest war Britain had fought since the Napoleonic Wars. Today, join a guided half day tour to relive the war’s most costly single day where on 23 January 1900, the British attempted to recapture Spioenkop. On return to the lodge, enjoy your final evening from the comfort of the outdoor veranda looking out to a truly impressive mountain backdrop.
