Vietnam Holidays

A holiday to Vietnam mesmerises visitors with its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture and fascinating history.

Stretching from the lofty mountain peaks, lush rice terraces and fascinating hill tribes of the far north, through the hauntingly beautiful Halong Bay and an endless coastline of sandy beaches, to the fertile waterways of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s natural splendour is nothing short of majestic.

The cosmopolitan cities, historic towns and charming villages provide a beautiful counterpoint to all these natural wonders. From bustling markets to chic nightlife and ancient temples to fashionable rooftop restaurants, discover this enchanting country where old merges harmoniously with new. Throw in a rich and tumultuous history and a unique culture and you have an absolutely captivating mix.

For those who prefer to travel at a more leisurely pace, cruising the Mekong between Vietnam and Cambodia is a popular and memorable way to explore the region’s charms and will visit areas that are otherwise impossible to reach. Most cruises travel between My Tho in the Mekong Delta and Siem Reap, providing a unique insight into life on these fascinating waterways.

Trailfinders is the UK & Ireland’s No.1 Tour Operator to Vietnam and we have a dedicated team of destination specialists who are mines of information about the country, often with first-hand experience of travel here. Whether you want to explore the country with your own private driver or on a sociable small group tour, or are simply looking for advice on the best place to stay for a relaxing beach break – they are the perfect people to ask.

    Vietnam Holiday Highlights Map
    Hanoi
Vietnam’s dynamic and atmospheric capital boasts a host of museums, enchanting pagodas and charming restaurants. The city is centred on Hoan Kiem Lake, where locals stroll arm in arm on balmy evenings and gather at dawn for T’ai Chi sessions. North of the lake lie the lively markets and sizzling food stalls of the labyrinthine Old Quarter, while to the south the treelined boulevards and colonial architecture of the French Quarter provide an elegant contrast.
    Sapa and the Far North
Close to the Chinese border, the jagged peaks of the Hoang Lien Mountains, or Tonkinese Alps, soar above lush green valleys of terraced rice fields. The area is home to ethnic minority groups including Hmong and Dao, many of whom still live in wooden stilt houses and wear brightly coloured traditional dress. Overlooked by Mount Fansipan, the former hill station of Sapa is a great base for exploring the region.
    Halong & Lan Ha Bay
Known by locals as the 'Bay of the Descending Dragon' legend has it that these mythical creatures created the bay to act as a barrier again aggressors. Today Halong Bay is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with over 3,000 limestone karst islets jutting out of the emerald waters. An overnight cruise is the perfect way to explore these atmospheric bays, remote islands and mysterious caves.
    Northern Vietnam
Situated just a few hours from frenetic Hanoi you will find some of Vietnam's most alluring landscapes. The picturesque Mai Chau Valley and Pu Luong Nature Reserve offer a peaceful escape, with lush rice fields and traditional villages surrounded by spectacular rock formations while to the east lies Ninh Binh's beautiful network of waterways set amid towering limestone mountains and cavernous grottos. Further south you will find the dramatic cave systems and winding rivers of Phong Nha.
    Hue
Set beside the wide Perfume River, Hue was the nation’s capital for 150 years until the early 20th Century and today is a charming place to discover the country’s imperial and more recent history. The city is renowned for its grand Nguyen dynasty tombs, the majestic Citadel and the Thien Mu Pagoda, while to its north lies the former Demilitarised Zone and several notable battle sites from the ‘American War’.
    Hoi An & Danang
Delightful Hoi An is Vietnam’s most atmospheric town, with elegant architecture and a lovely riverside setting. Once Asia’s most important port, the Old Town is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site which buzzes with charming restaurants, stylish bars and expert tailors set amid historic temples and shop houses. Surrounding the town are picturesque rice fields and sleepy back lanes, while a few miles to the east lie glorious palm fringed beaches. A little further along the coast lie the bright lights and white sand beaches of Danang.
    Ho Chi Minh City
Situated on the banks of the Saigon River and still commonly referred to as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s largest metropolis and commercial capital. Above the seemingly chaotic whirl of motorbikes, soar glistening skyscrapers and lavish hotels, while a host of excellent restaurants and chic nightspots appeal to style-conscious locals. The spirit of the old city lives on in its colonial architecture, bustling markets and ubiquitous street food stalls.
    Vietnam Beaches
With a ribbon like coast, the lure of Vietnam's golden, palm-fringed beaches can prove irresistible and provides the perfect end to an unforgettable adventure. The long coastline and offshore islands offer a wide range of opportunities for a beach break, from lively destinations such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Mui Ne to the secluded coves of Nihn Van Bay or the laidback islands of Con Dao. With a fabulous selection of hotels available, ranging from luxurious resorts to boutique rustic hideaways, Vietnam really does have a beach for everyone.
    Mekong Delta
In the far south of Vietnam the mighty Mekong River splits into numerous branches that flow through the fertile delta region before emptying into the South China Sea. Alongside the lush paddy fields, fruit orchards and picturesque waterways you’ll find riverside settlements bustling with traditional industries, laidback cities and a few remaining floating markets, all offering an insight into rural Vietnamese life.

    HOW TO GET AROUND VIETNAM

Exploring Vietnam with your own private car and driver is extremely popular. You can simply follow one of our classic itineraries or our specialist Vietnam team can put something tailormade together for you.

Small group touring is also a sociable way to explore the country as are our escorted coach tours, fabulous choices if you are travelling solo. There are some wonderful boats cruising the waters of the Mekong River and it’s also worth considering an ocean going cruise that will call in at many of the highlights.

Lastly don’t forget Vietnam’s neighbours. It’s simple and straightforward to combine a holiday to Vietnam with one in Cambodia, Laos and Thailand on a multi centre holiday.
