Cartagena
Cartagena’s historic old town is easily explored on foot with picturesque cobblestone streets and colourful plazas. This vibrant city is also the main gateway to Colombia’s stunning Caribbean coast, with regular boat departures to nearby islands and many of the surrounding beaches.
Rosario Islands
Easily reached by boat from Cartagena, the Rosario Islands are a picturesque archipelago known for their clear waters and idyllic beaches. Home to the Rosario and San Bernardo Corals National Natural Park, which protects the surrounding coral, the islands offer an ideal escape for snorkelling and diving as well as soaking up the laidback Caribbean atmosphere.
Tayrona National Park
Around a four hour drive from Cartagena, Tayrona National Park boasts jungle-fringed beaches and lush rainforest. A dream destination for nature lovers, there are numerous paths throughout the park where visitors can enjoy guided hikes in search of local wildlife and pristine beaches.
San Andrés and Providencia
Reached by air, San Andrés and Providencia are surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and known for their white sandy beaches and striking turquoise waters. San Andrés offers a lively mix of beaches, restaurants and watersports, while Providencia offers a quieter, less developed island escape.
Isla Múcura
Free of cars and roads, Isla Múcura is a little further to reach from Cartagena, taking around two hours by boat. This small, tranquil island offers a remote setting, with untouched beaches and vibrant coral reefs away from the crowds.
Isla Barú
The Barú Peninsula, also known as Isla Barú, is easily reached by road or by boat from Cartagena and is known for its picturesque beaches dotted with mangrove trees. The area’s most famous beach, Playa Blanca offers stunning white sand and is the perfect spot to unwind.
