One of South America's most evocative sights, the Salar de Uyuni - also known as Uyuni Salt Flats or Bolivia Salt Flats - is a stunning and vast landscape that stretches as far as the eye can see. In the dry season (May-Nov), its landscape offers vistas of pure white, which contrasts brilliantly with the bright blue skies of the Altiplano. During the wet season (Dec-Apr) rainfall transforms the flats into the world’s largest mirror.

Home to giant cacti and prehistoric fossils, the fascinating Isla Incahuasi lies in the middle of the salt flats. The island itself is the remains of a volcano, once used as a refuge for locals when crossing the salt flats. Take a short walk to the top of the island for incredible views.

This region of Bolivia is also home to the imposing Tunupa Volcano. From Salar de Uyuni, drive to the colourful mountains of the Cordillera de los Frailes where you will be met with impressive colourful volcanic lagoons.
