Known as the ‘Paris of South America’, Argentina’s capital city offers a rich culture which seamlessly blends European and South American influences. A mosaic of 48 electric barrios (neighbourhoods), from the trendy culinary scene of Palermo and elegant architecture of Recoleta to bohemian San Telmo and colourful La Boca, Buenos Aires has something for everyone.

Visiting one of South America’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, Iguazú Falls is a must. Iguazú translates to ‘Big Water’, which appropriately describes these 272 impressive waterfalls. Set against the stunning snow-capped peaks of the Andes, Mendoza province is Argentina’s premier wine-producing region. The pleasant city of Mendoza boasts leafy plazas and charming cafés, whilst the cobbled streets of nearby Chacras de Coria offer a delightful alternative. There are over 1,500 wineries nestled in picturesque scenery which can be visited as part of a day trip or as an overnight stay.

The Iberá Wetlands (Esteros del Iberá) are the world's second largest wetlands with a wide variety of wildlife including caiman, capybara and a large number of birdlife calling it their home. Relatively unknown, this is one of the most remarkable ecosystems in Argentina, comprising of a series of lakes, lagoons and marshland that can be explored on foot or from the water - an unmissable experience for nature lovers.

Northwest Argentina offers a variety of landscapes ranging from impressive salt flats to rugged canyons. The city of Salta has the nickname La Linda (the beautiful) due to its striking scenery and for being home to well-preserved colonial architecture. Nearby Cafayate boasts impressive wineries, whilst the tranquil village of Purmamarca sits in the shadow of the Hill of Seven Colours.

Argentina's windswept Peninsula Valdés, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers fantastic wildlife viewing. Southern right whales can often be seen in the bay between June and December, while orcas and penguin sightings peak around September and April. Seals, sea lions and a variety of birdlife can be seen year round. Choose to stay on the peninsula or in the nearby town of Puerto Madryn.

The Southernmost tip of South America, nicknamed the 'End of the World', Ushuaia is not only the gateway to Antarctica, but also a fantastic place for adventurers in it's own right. Explore the rugged landscapes of nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park and Lapataia National Park or sail out onto the Beagle Channel to spot the local wildlife.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT ARGENTINA?

The best time to visit Argentina varies by region. Argentina encompasses many diverse landscapes and climates, but in general the best time to visit El Calafate, El Chaltén & Bariloche is October to April. The northern regions of Argentina enjoy warmer climates throughout the year, however Iguazú Falls can get rather hot and humid from December to February.
