Venice to Zagreb by Rail

Days 1-3  Venice, Italy  
Fly to Venice and transfer by private water taxi to your hotel. Spend the next couple of days meandering through Venice’s enchanting myriad of narrow alleyways and visit its most iconic landmarks. With your included day tour, featuring skip the line admission, start at the impressive St Mark’s Basilica, followed by the Gothic styled Doges Palace, once the seat of the Venetian government. Later, experience the beauty of Venice from the water as you cruise along on a typical gondola, exploring the majestic waterways framed by towering Venetian palaces.  

Days 4-5  Venice to Trieste  
Journey by rail to Trieste, a charming city with a unique blend of Austrian, Italian and Slavic cultures. Stroll by the Grand Canal, cross the iconic Red Bridge and discover the historic district of Borgo Teresiano. Perhaps visit Miramare Castle, learn about its history and explore the beautiful gardens.    

Days 6-8  Trieste to Ljubljana, Slovenia  
After breakfast, catch the train to Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city. Amble over the uniquely designed Triple Bridge to Presernov Trg, an attractive square boasting elegant architecture. Take the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle and explore the fascinating 16th Century structure. On your included tour, encounter the serene beauty of Slovenia’s most famous lakes. Delight in the 7km scenic walk around Lake Bled, and perhaps indulge in a large slice of the iconic Bled cream cake. Continue to Lake Bohinj, considered one of Slovenia’s hidden gems, and opt to walk around the lake.  

Days 9-11  Ljubljana to Zagreb, Croatia  
Today, board the train to Zagreb, Croatia’s capital city and one of the oldest Central European cities. Head out on a walking tour, stopping at Ban Josip Jelacic Square, one of the most iconic places in the heart of the city, before visiting a local farmers market and the world’s shortest funicular railway which connects the upper and lower town. Meander the amazing labyrinth of narrow streets, and listen out for Gric Cannon’s fire, the traditional way of acknowledging the time at midday. Relax with a coffee and admire the remarkable architecture of the historic buildings.  

Day 12  Fly home
