Itinerary:

Day 1  Santiago de Compostela to Sarria
Arrive in Santiago and transfer to your accommodation, a rural rectoral outside of Sarria. If the weather allows, enjoy dinner on the patio this evening.

Day 2  Sarria to Portomarin
The Camino de Santiago is one of the world’s great walks and you’ll begin with a walk along a Roman Bridge that leads out of Sarria up the Celerio Valley. Pass through a collection of hamlets and eventually descend to Portomarin, beside the Rio Minho.

Day 3  Portomarin to Lestedo
You may wish to take time this morning to visit Portomarin’s church, a lovely Romanesque style monument. Pass between scenic cornfields and stop by at country churches dedicated to the Order of St James and stamp your Pilgrim Passport. Arrive this afternoon at a beautifully restored rectory and your home for this evening.

Day 4  Lestedo to O Coto
Stroll leisurely along the country lanes that characterise this rural region and admire the pretty farmhouses en route to the hillside town of Palas de Rei. Later, walk through vineyards and enjoy the views across the Montes del Vacaloura. Home tonight is the tiny village of O Coto.

Day 5  O Coto to Arzúa
First stop today is the country town of Melide, well known for its collection of specialist restaurants serving octopus. Drop into the Romanesque church and admire the frescoes before your route continues to the market town of Arzúa.

Day 6  Arzúa to Rúa
Today’s route is undulating following river valleys through the rural countryside. This is prime farming country and you’ll pass by many small-scale farms on your way. This evening, your accommodation is in a characterful converted former watermill. Original machinery has been turned into period features, making for a fascinating stay.

Day 7  Rúa to Santiago de Compostela
The final stretch is before you today. Set off towards Monte de Gozo where pilgrims of old caught their first glimpse of the spires of Santiago. Reach the city’s historic centre and enjoy the lively atmosphere as a steady stream of pilgrims reach their journeys end at the spectacular cathedral. Wander to your historic hotel, close by the colourful old marketplace.

Day 8  Santiago de Compostela
Your self guided walking tour ends this morning after breakfast.
