Day 1 Delhi
Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and explore the sights and sounds of this bustling city, before a welcome meeting in early evening to meet your Tour Leader and fellow travellers.
Day 2 Delhi to Agra
This morning leave for Agra, home to India’s most famous site the spectacular Taj Mahal. Later, visit the nearby Agra Fort, a huge complex built of red sandstone.
Day 3 Agra to Karauli
Leave Agra behind and continue to the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri. This magnificent ghost town was capital of the Mughal Empire. Later drive down to Karauli, arriving mid afternoon. Stay overnight at a sprawling palace belonging to the family that once ruled Karauli.
Day 4 Karauli to Ranthambore NP
Depart Karauli in the morning and head to famous Ranthambore National Park, one of the original Project Tiger reserves. Search for tigers and other wildlife on a 4WD park safari.
Day 5 Ranthambore NP
Enjoy a morning and afternoon safari in this wonderful national park. The elusive tiger can be hard to spot but there are also hyena, crocodiles, jackals, pythons and sloth bears, among many other animals. It’s a magical place.
Day 6 Ranthambore NP to Bundi
Drive to Bundi, a small town on the foot hills of the Himalayas. Famous as the place that inspired Rudyard Kipling to write his novel, ‘Kim’, Bundi today is known for its series of step wells ('baoris'), old houses, narrow streets, and the remarkable Taragarh Fort.
Day 7 Bundi
Today is free to explore more of Bundi. The narrow streets are alive with atmosphere and a orientation walk around the bazaars and temples is a great experience.
Day 8 Bundi to Bijaipur
Set off to Bijaipur today where you will stay a night in Castle Bijaipur (subject to availability). This 16th century castle is now converted into a heritage hotel run by the local ruling family. On the way visit Menal, a temple complex that has been referred to as a ‘mini Khajuraho’, with its elaborate erotic carvings.
Day 9 Bijaipur to Udaipur
En route to Udaipur visit Chittorgarh, probably India's greatest medieval fort, perched in a dramatic setting overlooking the town.
Day 10 Udaipur
A beautiful city built around the shores of Lake Pichola and full of fascinating temples, ornate palaces and impressive 'havelis' (merchant homes). The charming setting of the Lake Palace on Jagniwas Island is unforgettable. During your stay, you will visit the Jagdish Temple, an Indo Aryan temple containing a black stone image of Wishnu as Jagannath, Lord of the Universe.
Day 11 Udaipur to Dera Khairwa
On your journey between Udaipur and Jodhpur you will stop to spend a night in a most unique place. Dera Khairwa is a 15th century fort palace located in the village of Khairwa in the Pali District.
Day 12 Dera Khairwa to Jodhpur
Continue onto Jodhpur, a historic city famous for its blue painted buildings, visit the impressive Meherangarh Fort, stroll at leisure in Sadar Market with several alleyways leading off to various bazaars selling all sorts of fruits, vegetables, spices, textiles, and handicrafts.
Day 13 Jodhpur
Travel by jeep though some of the surrounding countryside and visit the various different caste villages. These are home to people such as the Bishnois, the protectors of trees and animals, and the Meghwals, who are skilled weavers and potters.
Day 14 Jodhpur to Jaipur
A day on the road as you head to Jaipur the colourful capital of the state of Rajasthan, passing small traditional villages on the way.
Day 15 Jaipur
Explore the City Palace, an amazing complex with various courtyards and connecting buildings, as well as fascinating museums displaying royal costumes and weaponry. Visit the Old Bazaar and Hawa Mahal, better known as the Palace of the Wind. This five storey façade with its pink, honeycombed sandstone windows is one of Jaipur's best known landmarks. Later in the day, visit the famous Amber Fort.
Day 16 Jaipur to Delhi
After breakfast, head back to Delhi today arriving in plenty of time to take an orientation tour of the city and visit some of Delhi’s popular sights such as India Gate, the President's House (Rashtrapati Bhavan) and Parliament House before heading off to do some last minute shopping at the colourful Janpath Bazaar. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks before heading out to one of Delhi's great restaurants for an optional farewell dinner.
Day 17 Delhi
Make your way to the airport for your flight home.
