Journey through fascinating parts of South America that so many travellers have never even heard of. Visiting three intriguing countries, with many similarities but substantial differences as well as a little of northern Brazil. French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana all lie along the Caribbean Coast as do the majority of their populations. The cities of Cayenne, Paramaribo and Georgetown are all an eclectic mix of Colonial French, British and Dutch, Amerindians, Maroon and the descendants of the indentured labourers from India, Indonesia and China. On this trip you will explore tropical river systems and forests, visit the European Space Centre, eat a fusion of Indian, Dutch and Caribbean food, discover some of South America’s most unique architecture and visit Amerindian river settlements.

Day 1 Cayenne, French Guiana
Arrive in Cayenne and transfer to your hotel. Later this evening meet with your tour leader and fellow travellers. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy Cayenne.
Day 2 Cayenne
Enjoy a half day walking tour around Cayenne, climb up Cépénou hill to enjoy panoramic views of the city; visit numerous key spots of historical, cultural and natural interest. The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure, perhaps take a kayaking trip to the Ilets du pont.
Day 3 Cayenne to Kourou
Head out to the town of Kourou, the site of the European Space station and the starting point for boat trips around the former penal colony on Devil’s Island, one of the infamous Iles du Salut, off the coast of French Guiana.
Day 4 Kourou to Saint Laurent du Maroni
Visit the European Space Centre near Kourou, en route to the town of Saint Laurent du Maroni, your home for the evening.
Day 5 Saint Laurent du Maroni
Today is a free day to explore the border town of Saint Laurent du Maroni, located on the Maroni River, with its interesting and dark history as an arrival point for prisoners during the 19th Century.
Day 6 Saint Laurent du Maroni to Paramaribo, Suriname
Continue your journey west and cross the border into Suriname onto the lively capital Paramaribo. There is the option to take an evening sunset cruise in search of Dolphins playing in the Suriname River.
Day 7 Paramaribo
Explore the historic inner city of Paramaribo on foot this morning, visit the Zeelandia and the Suriname museum, enjoy the fantastic architecture of Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral, one of the largest wooden buildings in the western hemisphere, or choose to hire a bike and take a boat ride across the river to cycle the peaceful Commewijne Plantation Loop.
Days 8-9 Upper Suriname
Leave the overland vehicle behind and spend the next two days exploring the Upper Suriname area as you set off for an unforgettable adventure into the interior of Suriname. Travel by minibus to Ajoni and hop on a boat as you cruise along the Suriname River deep into the rainforest where you will stay the next two nights – on your own private island. On day 9 visit local villages, walk around the island and learn about the medicinal plants, spot a caiman on a night time canoe trip and enjoy the tranquillity of the Amazon Rainforest.
Days 10-11 Paramaribo
Spend some time relaxing on the island, maybe go for a swim or a walk. After lunch you will return to Paramaribo. Day 11 is free to spend as you wish to further explore this lively city, go for a walk in the Peperpot Nature Reserve or maybe learn the art of Suriname cookery.
Day 12 Paramaribo to Bigi Pan
Head out to Bigi Pan, designated an ‘Important Bird Area’ for its spectacular bird life.
Day 13 Bigi Pan to Georgetown, Guyana
Continue on across the border by ferry to Georgetown, the capital of Guyana.
Days 14-15 Georgetown
Enjoy the next two days as you discover the city, explore the old canals and great sea wall, visit incredible wooden cathedrals and the huge market. During your time here be sure to take a trip to the Kaieteur Falls, one of the tallest single drop waterfalls in the world and reachable only by light aircraft.
Day 16 Georgetown to Iwokrama Forest
Your adventures begins as you journey south into the Guyanan Interior. Enjoy the comforts of a tarmac road to the town of Linden before hitting the dirt road, the only road which connects Georgetown to Brazil. Arrive at your camp just north of the Essequibo River where you will spend the night.
Day 17 Iwokrama Forest
Cross the river on a small barge this morning as you head deep in the Guyanan rainforest, giving some unique wildlife spotting opportunities, one of the most pristine and untouched eco-systems in the world. Continue on to visit the Iwokrama Forest Canopy Walkway, providing a unique opportunity to experience the jungle's mid-level canopy through a series of suspension bridges and decks. Visits during dusk or dawn are best for bird spotting of Macaws and Tucans, you may even be lucky enough to see Red Howler Monkeys.
Day 18 Iwokrama Forest to Rupununi
Head towards a village settlement in an area of Savannah as you leave the dense rainforest behind. Take a walk in the village and a short river trip in Canoes on the Burro Burro River. Arrive at your camp where you will be spending the next two nights.
Day 19 Rupununi
Today is a free day to spend as you wish, maybe go horse riding or hiking.
Day 20 Rupununi to Boa Vista, Brazil
Your final day in Guyana as you head south past the town of Lethem and onto the city of Boa Vista in Brazil.
Day 21 Boa Vista
Your tour comes to an end this morning, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
