The second best time is now
Michael Budge spoke at the ABTA Travel Finance Conference about the oft delayed ATOL reform.
He talked about the ‘renewed energy' at the DFT to make this reform happen, but would not be drawn on when. ABTA’s director of legal affairs, Simon Bunce, concluded this would not happen ‘any time soon’.
Given the CAA and DFT have missed virtually every date they have set, for every step of ATOL reform over the years, it is easy to see why they are loath to set another.
In the consumers and taxpayers interest, embezzlement of Client money must not be tolerated. The CAA and DFT appear to still agree, but just don’t have the ‘energy’ to get on with it.
Sadly ABTA’s legal director is probably right and this gross abuse won’t end any time soon.
