Fiordland National Park & Glenorchy Holidays

new zealand & the pacific
There are few places more emblematic of New Zealand’s dramatic landscapes than Fiordland National Park. Towering peaks, deep fiords, and vast stretches of untouched wilderness combine to create some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country.

One of the most popular ways to experience Fiordland is by cruising through Milford or Doubtful Sound, where sheer cliffs rise straight from dark, reflective waters and waterfalls cascade after rainfall. Serving as the gateway to Fiordland, the lakeside town of Te Anau is an ideal base for exploring the area, offering easy access to cruises, hiking trails and magical glowworm caves.

Beyond the famous fiords, Fiordland is also home to quieter, lesser-known gems. Glenorchy provides a more secluded experience, with sweeping alpine views, braided rivers, and a peaceful atmosphere far from the crowds.

Trailfinders is the UK's No.1 for New Zealand holidays*

Doubtful Sound & Milford Sound
Doubtful Sound & Milford Sound
New Zealand’s deep and dramatic fiords are must-sees and best discovered by boat. Milford Sound is the more famous of the two, thus can be busier but the views of Mitre Peak are undeniably sensational.

The more expansive Doubtful Sound is more remote but equally spectacular with fewer visitors hence a great place to choose for an overnight expedition to make the most of the exclusive panoramas. A scenic flight as part of any fiords visit is highly recommended.
Te Anau
Te Anau
The town of Te Anau makes for an idyllic base, set on the shores of a serene lake with the entirety of Fiordland National Park on your doorstep.

The Kepler Track, one of New Zealand’s ‘Great Walks’ starts just outside of town with great fishing and mountain biking also to be found along the lake shores. Relative isolation from human exploration has made the region a haven for wildlife including rare birds, such as the colourful, flightless takahe.
Glenorchy
Glenorchy
Although technically outside Fiordland National Park, the mountain village of Glenorchy is proof that the epic scenery does not stop at the park gates. The area is also famous for scenic trails and fly-fishing.

Despite being only being a 45 minute scenic drive from Queenstown, Glenorchy is sometimes overlooked due to its remote location, but visitors who make the time to visit will be rewarded by overwhelming views of soaring mountain peaks in every direction.
