Trailfinders' Dave Biffen gives an insight into Waterfront Village
Waterfront Village Expert Review
Dave Biffen
We had an amazing stay at the Waterfront Village, and I genuinely can't think of a better place to stay when in Cape Town. The apartments are located right on the water’s edge in the heart of the V&A (the aquarium is just a few steps from the entrance so you can't get much closer to the water than this), and with the much pricier One&Only and Cape Grace next door, these apartments offer exceptionally good value for money by comparison.
We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a Deluxe Three Bedroom Apartment (Pembroke 302) which is one of the their best apartments, and we were so impressed by the space and views - the master bedroom had a huge balcony overlooking the harbour, and the second/third bedrooms were at the back with a massive terrace overlooking the canal and Table Mountain. Add to this a vast open plan living room/dining room/kitchen and three bathrooms, we couldn't have asked for more. The fully stocked kitchen was perfect for cooking, and it was cleaned daily as part of turndown. The complex itself is tranquil and safe, with lots of waterways and bridges only accessible via key card, and you could exit straight into the V&A and walk to the Robben Island departure point in just five minutes.
Overall we loved our stay here and were genuinely bowled over by the location, views, space and value - we won't be staying anywhere else when we next go back.
Top tip: If you're making use of the kitchen facilities then there is a huge Pick and Pay supermarket in the basement of the V&V shopping centre (just a ten minute walk away). The fantastic Timeout Market is a great spot for lunch just a few minutes’ walk from the apartments, and La Parada is a great spot for tapas in the evening. For a somewhat touristy but very fun dinner experience, the famous Gold Restaurant is only a ten minute walk away (pre-booking essential).

Trailfinders Hotel Classification Guide
Modest accommodation with basic facilities, representing good value where price is the main priority.
Simple, comfortable accommodation and facilities offering good value for the destination.
Good standard of accommodation and/or facilities and overall a higher level of service may be expected.
High international standards of accommodation and facilities where luxury and quality of service are priorities.
Indicates that the property offers a higher than average level of accommodation and facilities when compared to other properties of the same classification.
Unique, often smaller and sometimes historic properties, which offer individual charm and are consequently very popular. They offer the standards of accommodation indicated by their classification but rooms may be smaller than average and not all facilities may be available.
Trailfinders classifications are for your guidance only and do not mirror any international "star rating" system. In each case, the full description of the property should be read and used in conjunction with the classification indicated. A 3★ city hotel, for example, may be more expensive than a 4★ if it is in a prime location. Classifications are unique to a destination and can reflect local or regional variations in quality and service, so a 5★ in a particular area may not be comparable with a 5★ elsewhere.
