The Rockley by Ocean Hotels

We really enjoyed our stay in the Rockley, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. it was the perfect base for us to explore the beaches, sights and fun of Barbados. It really leans into small hotel feel with friendly, personable and efficient staff.

The breakfast buffet was great with staples of fruit, yogurt, cereals, mini cakes and toast complimented by 6 hot food options and an egg / omelette station and I was never disappointed with the quality. As we made our way over to the café the staff would spot us and prepare our table, provide our tea and coffee on the go, and always greeted the kids by name.

We found The Rockley perfect for us, and it really met our expectations. The room was spacious with a full kitchen with pullout sofa bed which would be suitable for kids. There was a minimart just a 2 minute walk away for snacks or icepops and a large supermarket circa 10 - 15 minutes away. The beach across the road was large and we used it a few times. The Rockley provided tokens for the beach beds and umbrella which was handy. We used local buses to explore other beaches along the West Coast.

We hired a car through the hotel for a couple of days and explored the island. We took recommendations of from reception to explore and did Harrisons cave which was brilliant excursion into a limestone cave but also had ziplines and aviary on site. We also went up to the steam train for a spin which the kids and adults loved - we even got to blow the whistle! Apart from that we went to the Horse Racing on Saturday, and the Oistins Fish Fry on Friday night which was great buzz - we strolled along the pier at Oistins and could spot turtle popping up in the bay. There was multiple dining options within walking distance. However, everyone jumps in a local bus which is cash 3.50 Barbados dollars and was an experience in itself.

Top tip: Stroll 2 minutes along Rockley Beach to the Tiki Bar with beachfront drinks and food. If you venture further afield then Bali Bar on Pebble beach is a very good option or Sea Shed on Mullins Beach is great.
