970 Lonely Bay Lodge, Whitianga

Really loved the 970 Lonely Bay hotel. Set in a rather quiet location but the town of Whitanga is very accessible both via water taxi or a half hour drive. Cook's Beach is a great, quiet sandy beach and the adjacent town is small yet provides a few nice dining options as well as a convenience store for essential items.

The guesthouse itself was lovely and extremely spacious.

Guests are provided with a complimentary bottle of local wine, some snacks and bottled water with a range of tea/coffee options in room. The garden compliments the property, making an ideal place to spend some time relaxing on a sunny afternoon or evening.

The manager Anne was great, offering lots of recommendations of things to do in the local area, such as kayaking, hiking and other boat tour options. She also cooks breakfast each morning for guests, with a good selection of continental style foods & cooked eggs, bacon.
