Day 1 Kigali, Rwanda
Arrive into Kigali at any time and transfer to your hotel. Take the time to explore this pleasant and friendly city at your leisure, before a welcome meeting this evening.
Day 2 Kigali to Volcanoes NP
This morning, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn of the sombre history of Rwanda. This afternoon, visit the G Adventures-supported Nyamirambo Women’s Centre for a community walk and meet the locals who benefit from the centre’s training programmes. Enjoy a lunch of delicacies prepared by the women and learn about their local enterprises. Continue your journey north to your lodge just outside Volcanoes National Park and enjoy the fabulous volcano views.
Day 3 Volcanoes NP
Embark on a trek through Volcanoes National Park with a local ranger to see the endangered golden monkey. Watch these playful creatures in their natural habitat, before visiting the Karisoke Research Centre, founded by conservationist, Dr Dian Fossey. Meet with the resident researcher and learn about the ongoing work for the protection of the mountain gorillas. This evening, listen to an in-depth lecture about the gorillas from one of the head wardens of the national park.
Day 4 Volcanoes NP
There are approximately 1,000 mountain gorillas in the wild and today, you will have the opportunity to trek to see a gorilla family. As the gorillas are constantly on the move, the duration and difficulty of the trek will vary depending on the family’s location. Once located, spend an hour observing these beautiful creatures before returning to your lodge for lunch. This afternoon, visit a small farming village for a glimpse of local life.
Days 5-6 Volcanoes NP to Queen Elizabeth NP, Uganda
Cross the border into Uganda and head to Queen Elizabeth National Park. On day six, embark on a chimpanzee trek through the lush Kalinzu Forest Reserve. Learn of their habits, social activities and the protection measurements put in place as you observe them in their natural habitat, before joining a wildlife safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park this afternoon.
Day 7 Queen Elizabeth NP
Rise early for another wildlife safari through the national park in search of warthogs, lions, hippos and the elusive leopard. This afternoon, cruise the Kazinga Channel and keep your eyes peeled for birds and crocodiles.
Day 8 Queen Elizabeth NP to Entebbe
Travel to Entebbe, stopping en route at the Equator. Visit a traditional drum making workshop and learn how the instruments are made using animal hides, before enjoying a musical demonstration from their creations.
Day 9 Entebbe
Your tour comes to an end this morning after breakfast.
