Travel through fascinating parts of Africa that so many travellers have never even heard of. As you journey through 17 countries starting in Senegal, the western most part of Africa through to the southern tip of the continent over 134 days finishing in Cape Town.
Travelling mainly by the Dragoman overland truck and the occasional trips in a Pirogue (dugout canoe) this trip runs once a year and it is only for really experienced travellers or for folk who are happy to go way out of their comfort zone.
Your Journey will be divided up in three parts, the first taking you from Dakar through to Freetown. Admire the ever changing landscapes as you enter greener wetlands, trek though surrounding hills and villages taking in incredible scenery. Enjoy a boat trip through the Baobalong Wetlands near Tendaba, Gambia and discover one of Africa’s best bird watching areas. Spend some time relaxing on the stunning beaches of Freetown Peninsular. There are many included daily and optional activities throughout the trip to take advantage of.
The second part will take you back through Guinea and into Ivory Coast and Ghana where the real expedition stage of your journey begins, through Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and into the jungles of Cameroon. During your second leg of the journey, learn about the British-Ashanti Wars of the 19th Century on a guided tour of the Ghana Armed Forces Museum in Kumasi, visit the opulent Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, experience wild camping in Nigeria, witnessing the true life and culture of the towns and villages you will stop in and spend time in the foothills of Mount Cameroon, one of Africa's biggest volcanoes.
Heading south out of West Africa, traverse through vibrant Gabon, the wilderness of Republic of the Congo renowned for their hospitable welcomes and where you will find smiling faces wherever you go through to a small portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as you make your way to the hidden gem for travellers, Angola. Here visit the stunning Kalandula Falls, the largest waterfalls by volume in Africa. Observe elephants taking a drink in Etosha National Park, witness breathtaking sunsets and sunrises in Spitzkoppe. Climb to the top of the famous Dune 45 in the Namib Desert and take in dramatic views across a vast sea of sand. Your epic journey comes to an end as you head down the Western Cape to the charming and beautiful city of Cape Town.
