Itinerary
Days 1-2 Johannesburg to eSwatini
Arrive into Johannesburg and transfer to Pretoria to board the Rovos Rail, trundling past rolling hills as you dine on delicious food on board.
Day 3 Kruger NP
Visit the famous Kruger National Park for an exciting game drive to spot a variety of wildlife before returning to the train.
Day 4 eSwatini to Hluhluwe
This morning, transfer to Swazi Candles and Mantenga Cultural Village before an afternoon relaxing on board the train.
Day 5 Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park
Transfer to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park for a game drive in the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa. Return to the train for a lovely lunch and traverse along the coastline.
Day 6 Hluhluwe to Durban
Enjoy a Durban city tour, a visit to the botanical gardens and lunch at Umhlanga’s beachfront. After, travel through the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
Day 7 Durban to Spioenkop
Transfer from Ladysmith station to Spionkop Lodge to hear historic tales of the Battle of Spioenkop. This afternoon, choose between a nature drive or simply relaxing at the lodge. Return for an evening back on board.
Day 8 Spioenkop to Bloemfontein
Experience a drive through Golden Gate Highlands National Park before a visit to the picturesque town of Clarens. In the afternoon, visit the Sandstone Heritage Trust before transferring to the train at Bethlehem to depart for Bloemfontein.
Day 9 Bloemfontein
This morning, take a tour of Bloemfontein including the Women’s Memorial and the Anglo Boer War Museum. Back on board, traverse the Karoo, a vast and beautiful semi-desert.
Day 10 Bloemfontein to Addo Elephant NP
Embark on a game drive through Addo Elephant National Park, home to one of the densest African elephant populations on earth. Return to the train this afternoon.
Day 11 Addo Elephant NP to Fancourt
Today, transfer from Port Elizabeth to Oudebosch before continuing to Knysna for a lagoon ferry ride. Later, arrive in Fancourt for an overnight stay at an estate.
Days 12-13 Fancourt to Cape Town
This morning, visit an ostrich farm before transferring to the fascinating Cango Caves. Afterwards, enjoy a final night on board this iconic train. The following day, admire views of spectacular mountain ranges and winelands of the Western Cape before disembarking.
