Itinerary
Day 2 Arrive in Cape Town
Explore this fascinating city from the restaurants and attractions of the V&A Waterfront to the top of Table Mountain. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel, 5★ Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa. Nestled just south of Camps Bay, this luxury property boasts exceptional service with breathtaking views of the Twelve Apostles mountain range and the rugged coast.
Day 3 Cape Town
Today, take a private tour of the city and Robben Island, a former prison and leper colony, best known for housing Nelson Mandela during 18 years of his captivity. Visit the District 6 Museum, giving insight to life in apartheid and wander the colourful streets of Bo Kaap before taking the revolving cable car (payable locally) to the summit of majestic Table Mountain for majestic views of the city. Your guide will join you to the summit and give you a tour of the mountain.
Day 4 Cape Town
A private guide will take you on a tour to the rugged Cape Peninsula, which includes a fabulous coastal drive along Chapman’s Peak en route to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. After an optional lunch (payable locally), head to historic Simon's Town, a village with charming Victorian architecture, and watch cute African penguins waddle ashore at Boulders Beach (payable locally from 1 Jan 2027).
Days 5-7 Rovos Rail
An incredible few days lie ahead, as you transfer to the train station and board Rovos Rail this morning, embarking on a journey through South Africa’s wild heart. Leaving Cape Town behind, meander through the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic winelands towards historic Matjiesfontein. Spend your days relaxing in your suite or taking in the sweeping views from the observation car whilst mingling with other guests and enjoying your favourite tipple. Continue to the diamond rush town of Kimberley, capital of the Northern Cape. Learn about the town’s history as you partake in a tour of the Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Return to the train for lunch, as it journeys northeast towards the broad grassland plains of the Highveld.
Day 8 Johannesburg
This afternoon, alight from Rovos Rail in Pretoria and transfer to 4★+ Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, boasting an enviable Johannesburg location just a short distance from Nelson Mandela Square.
Days 9-12 Johannesburg to Madikwe GR
Check out of your hotel this morning and enjoy a scenic transfer away from the city and into the picturesque landscapes of the North West Province, arriving at luxurious and stylish 5★ Madikwe Safari Lodge, your home for the next few days. If time permits, head out on a game drive this afternoon after checking in. Traverse alongside dams, through valleys and over rocky hills in search of the Big 5 and some of the reserve’s other notable residents, which include wild dogs, hyenas and impressive birds of prey. Between drives, take a cooling dip in the pool overlooking a waterhole where elephants come to drink and spend your evenings relaxing at the boma area.
Day 12-13 Madikwe GR to home
Transfer to the Johannesburg airport for your overnight flight home.
