Explore Australia’s East Coast on this classic Sydney to Cairns route, introducing you to both sides of modern Australia - the bright lights of the big city and the raw beauty of the Outback. Enjoy the endless supply of must-do experiences in the country as you discover this amazing new frontier.

Day 1  Sydney    
Arrive in Sydney and transfer to your hostel. Later this evening meet with your tour leader and fellow travellers.    

Day 2  Sydney    
Get as adventurous as you like in the “Land Down Under” with a free day today to explore the oldest and biggest city in Australia. Perhaps take a ferry and gaze at the white sails of the Opera House glistening in the sun, wander the narrow cobbled laneways as you take in Sydney’s fabled history or catch some rays on the sand at Bondi Beach.  

Day 3  Sydney to Arrawarra (Spot X)  
Leave Sydney behind and head to Spot X Surf Camp, hidden away in beautiful Arrawarra along the North Coast. En route, stop at the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie to learn all about the conservation efforts being made to protect this unique native Australian animal.  

Day 4  Arrawarra (Spot X)
Watch the sun rise along the ocean as you hit the beach for a surf lesson with Spot X in one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the country. Spend some time learning to paddle, stand and ride a wave into shore! Later, head out on a kangaroo trek through the coastal bushland around Arrawarra. The rest of the afternoon is free to do as you wish.    

Day 5  Arrawarra (Spot X) to Byron Bay    
Venture through lush national parks, stunning beaches, rolling green hills and small but vibrant towns full of charm and authentic Australian culture as you drive from Arrawarra to Byron Bay. Visit  Cape Byron Lighthouse located at the easternmost point of the country and keep your eyes peeled for migrating whales and pods of dolphins.  

Day 6  Byron Bay    
Today is free for you to explore as you wish - walk along the stunning beaches, play in the surf or simply hang out at the Byron Bay Brewery and people watch.  

Day 7  Byron Bay to Brisbane    
Continue north into Queensland's capital, Brisbane today and enjoy a night on the town soaking up the vibrant atmosphere and foodie culture of this city.  

Day 8  Brisbane to Noosa Everglades   
Escape the city and head to the Noosa Everglades for an evening surrounded by stunning wilderness in one of the most pristine wetlands in the world. Relax on a cruise along this 'river of mirrors' and chow down on an Aussie barbecue, before grabbing a kayak and explore the dark tranquil waters of this ancient landscape. .  

Day 9  Noosa Everglades to Fraser Island    
Travel by private vehicle and ferry to reach Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. Once on the island, enjoy a 4WD of Fraser Island, driving along over 100km of beach, go for a swim in Lake McKenzie and enjoy a rainforest walk along the way keeping your eyes peeled for the resident dingoes of the isaldn.  

Day 10  Fraser Island to Airlie Beach    
Spend the morning exploring more of Fraser Island’s highlights, before hopping on an overnight train north to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands.  

Days 11-12  Airlie Beach to Whitsunday Islands    
After brunch once off the train, board a maxi yacht for a three day sailing adventure to enjoy beach visits, island bush walks and snorkelling the reefs. Set sail to a secluded cove in the Whitsunday Islands where you will drop anchor for the night. On day 12, hike to an island lookout over Whitehaven Beach and after some free time to relax on this iconic beach, learn of the community efforts to protect and restore coral in this section of the Great Barrier Reef.  

Day 13  Whitsunday Islands to Airlie Beach    
After three days at sea, sail back to Airlie Beach for a night on land in a local beach hostel. Feel free to relax by the pool at the end of the day before hitting the town.  

Day 14  Airlie Beach to Cairns      
Journey north by train to Cairns today and admire the scenery along the way.    

Day 15  Cairns    
Enjoy a free day to perhaps visit the Great Barrier Reef or you may opt to go white-water rafting or bungee jumping. Round off the trip with a final big night out in Cairns.  

Day 16  Cairns  
Your East Coast adventure comes to an end today.
