Itinerary

Day 1  Darwin
Enjoy a city tour on arrival into Darwin before being transferred to your hotel on The Esplanade. Gather for a tour briefing and dinner at the hotel restaurant this evening.

Day 2  Darwin to Maningrida
Beginning the adventure, we fly to Maningrida, experiencing a warm ‘Welcome to Country’ on arrival. Spend the next two nights at Barramundi Lodge and enjoy the endless floodplains views.

Day 3  Maningrida
This morning, enjoy an exclusive fishing adventure and wilderness tour on the Liverpool and Tomkinson Rivers. We then visit the Maningrida Arts and Cultural Centre and the Djomi Museum for an immersion into the culture and spiritual richness of the area.

Day 4  Maningrida to Mount Borradaile
Departing Maningrida after breakfast, our travels take us through the stone country of west Arnhem Land. Cross the Goomadeer and Liverpool Rivers before arriving at the turnoff to Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris, Mount Borradaile. This afternoon you will have the chance to learn about 40,000 years of Aboriginal culture.

Day 5  Mount Borradaile
Jump into the open back safari vehicles and continue exploring Mount Borradaile. Visit the ancient catacombs, where the sandstone has been eroded by wind and water over 600 million years, resulting in a massive cave system that is full of Aboriginal art. After lunch, explore the incredible wetlands of Cooper Creek and admire the prolific birdlife and large crocodiles.

Day 6  Mount Borradaile to Kakadu National Park
Immerse yourself in culture at the Injalak Art Gallery in Oenpelli, before crossing Cahill’s Crossing and then entering UNESCO World Heritage Site Kakadu National Park, a vast wilderness of wetlands, diverse wildlife, and ancient rock art. The Bininj/Mungguy people have lived here for 65,000 years, leaving behind over 5,000 rock art sites. Explore Ubirr, on a short circular walk or climb to the escarpment’s peak for breathtaking views over the Magela floodplain. After lunch, visit the cultural centre before heading back to the hotel.

Day 7  Kakadu National Park
Start the day with a cruise along the Yellow Water (Ngurrungurrudjba) wetlands, home to an array of birdlife and some impressive saltwater crocodiles. Depart for Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art site, with more amazing rock paintings, which date back 20,000 years. You also can climb up to the Gunwarddehwarde lookout for majestic views.

Day 8  Kakadu National Park to Darwin
An early start this morning as you board a 30-minute scenic flight over ancient escarpments, floodplains and winding rivers, exhibiting the results of 1.8 billion years of continuous erosion. Travel via Humpty Doo before arriving at Darwin, where the tour ends. Transfer to your city centre hotel or the airport for your flight home.
