Day 1 Launceston to Mount William NP
Travel to Mount William National Park, past the rich pastoral landscapes of Scottsdale and the tin mining town of Derby where your walk will start at Boulder Point which boasts stunning views of the Bass Strait Islands. The route has many secluded pristine beaches tucked between the sand dunes, the perfect scenery to stop for lunch and to hear tales of visiting explorers and the early inhabitants of this area. Keep your eyes peeled for native birds and marine artefacts before heading to the Forester Beach Camp. Enjoy a relaxed evening getting to know your fellow walkers over dinner on the deck and admire the surrounding views.
Day 2 Mount William NP to Bay of Fires Lodge
After a relaxed breakfast at camp, travel south to absorb the magnificent bold coastline colours. Walk along ridgelines of sand dunes for amazing views across heathlands and out to the ocean. Explore the marsupial lawns to track native animals, before enjoying lunch in a sheltered cove near the Eddystone Point Lighthouse, the perfect vantage point to see the red-hued rocks that provide the bay with its name, the Bay of Fires. Spend the afternoon traversing the secluded beaches and coves as you make your way to the Bay of Fires Lodge for afternoon tea. The lodge is a haven to sit back and relax as your guides prepare dinner, perhaps read one of the many books provided in the library or enjoy a spa treatment whilst enjoying a glass of fine Tasmanian wine.
Day 3 Bay of Fires Lodge
Today is free to explore the area as you wish. Perhaps rise early to hear the morning bird calls at dawn or sleep late and be awoken by the smell of a hot cooked breakfast. Activities available include kayaking down Ansons River, cross the water of Ansons Bay and walk back to the lodge over the dunes of the Abbotsbury Peninsula or stay closer to the lodge and enjoy spending the day fishing, snorkelling or exploring the coves. This evening, embark on a walk in search of nocturnal animals including wombats, wallabies, possums and possibly a Tasmanian devil! Once back at the lodge, the deck provides the perfect vantage point to see the spectacular night sky.
Day 4 Bay of Fires Lodge to Launceston
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and perhaps a morning swim or spa treatment, before embarking on your final walk. Depart the lodge and walk through eucalypt forests and coastal heathland, keeping your eyes peeled for colourful birds that are native to the forest. Spend one more lunch in the bush with your fellow walkers, reminiscing over the sights seen and memories made, before heading back to Launceston to toast to the end of your Tasmanian walking adventure.
