Day 1 Anchorage, USA
Arrive in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and meet your fellow travellers.
Day 2 Anchorage to Denali NP
This morning, leave Anchorage behind and travel to Denali National Park.
Day 3 Denali NP
Spend a full day exploring Denali National Park, a true highlight of Alaska. Head deep into the interior to see Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America. Keep an eye out for the park’s fantastic wildlife including wolves, moose and grizzly bears.
Day 4 Denali NP to Fairbanks
Today, head north to the city of Fairbanks, 320km south of the Arctic Circle. This afternoon, perhaps visit the Alaska Dog Mushing Museum to learn of this local sport.
Day 5 Fairbanks to Dawson City, Canada
Join the Top of the World Highway and pass through the most northern USA/Canada border crossing. As you travel beyond the timberline, enjoy the beautiful tundra scenery. Cross the Yukon River by ferry before arriving in Dawson City.
Day 6 Dawson City
Spend the day exploring this historic gold rush town and even try panning for gold. Visit the Jack London Cabin and Midnight Dome.
Day 7 Dempster Highway
On a day trip from Dawson, travel part of the famous Dempster Highway which connects Yukon to the remote town of Inuvik. Head as far as Tombstone Territorial Park, best known for its dark and rugged mountains.
Day 8 Dawson City to Whitehorse
Travel along the Klondike Highway and take in the stunning scenery of the mighty Yukon River, North America’s longest at 3,200km. Stop at the mighty Five Finger Rapids and pass by small villages reminiscent of the gold rush era.
Day 9 Skagway
Embark on a day trip down Klondike Highway passing a variety of landscapes en route to Skagway, a legendary gold rush town. Take a spectacular optional train ride over the infamous White Pass Railroad
Day 10 Whitehorse to Haines Junction
Today’s short drive takes you to Haines Junction. Stop off at spectacular Kluane National Park, home to the largest glaciers outside of the Poles, with much of this area still pristine and unexplored. Weather permitting, take a short hike to see the park up close or perhaps take an optional scenic flight.
Day 11 Haines Junction to Tok, USA
Continue along the shore of the great Lake Kluane looking out for the scarce snow-white dall sheep in the mountains, before crossing back into the USA. In Tok, you have the chance to visit a sled dog demonstration.
Day 12 Tok to Valdez
See the countless rivers, lakes and glaciers as you continue south to the small seaport of Valdez, known locally as ‘Little Switzerland’. Travel over the truly spectacular Thompson Pass with thundering falls right next to the road.
Day 13 Valdez to Seward
Today, cross Prince William Sound by ferry passing the calving glaciers. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident otters, puffins and perhaps even whales.
Days 14-15 Seward to Anchorage
Spend a full day at leisure in Anchorage as your wonderful Alaska and Yukon adventure comes to an end on day 15.
