Journey back to the days of the Great Silk Road with the medieval cities, stunning architecture and turbulent history of Uzbekistan. Begin in modern, cosmopolitan Tashkent and voyage out into the deserts to uncover 2000-year-old fortress cities lost in the sands of time. Stand awestruck, as Genghis Khan once did, in front of Bukhara's Kalon Minaret, gaze upon Samarkand's mighty Registan Ensemble.

Day 1 Tashkent
Arrive in Tashkent and transfer to your hotel. Later this evening meet with your tour leader and fellow travellers.
Day 2 Tashkent
A full day of sightseeing today, as you wander through Chorsu bazaar, one of the largest and oldest markets in Central Asia, visit the 16th Century Kulkedash Medrassa, an Islamic school. Take a brief tour of the metro system revealing some beautiful stations. After a full day of sightseeing relax at your hotel this evening or perhaps go to the ballet or opera at the stunning National Theatre.
Day 3 Tashkent to Samarkand
Transfer to the rail station this morning and take the high speed ‘Afrosiab’ train to Samarkand. A city that evokes the romance of the Silk Road. With your camera at the ready; the colourful minarets are a photographer’s dream.
Day 4 Samarkand
After breakfast take a trip to Registan Square, possibly the most recognisable of all Central Asia’s monuments. Explore the many handicraft and souvenir stalls in the courtyards and rooms, admire the impressive interiors of some of the buildings. While in this legendary city, join a local family for a class in Uzbek cooking over an open fire.
Day 5 Samarkand to Bukhara
Leave Samarkand behind and journey to the holy city of Uzbekistan, Bukhara also a favourite Silk Road city for many travellers. En route stop off at Gijduvan famous for its ceramic pottery.
Days 6-7 Bukhara
Spend the next two days exploring this ancient city rich in history and visit some of the well preserved monuments. Discover the 5th Century Ark Fortress, Bukhara’s oldest structure, take a guided tour of the city, visit the city’s trading domes and enjoy dinner on one of the evenings with a folklore and music performance. There will be some free time to further explore the city at your own leisure.
Day 8 Bukhara to Khiva
An early start today as you set off on a long journey to the fabled city of Khiva. Travel through Kyzyl-Kum (Red Sands Desert), the largest desert area in Central Asia. Stop for lunch at a roadside cafe to break up the journey. On arrival into Khiva grab a drink, sit down and enjoy the colourful panoramic view of the city at sunset on the roof top of your hotel.
Day 9 Khiva
Explore this beautifully preserved and enchanting city today, perfect for exploring on foot with impressive walls that mark the boundaries of the old city. Visit the Kuhna Ark and look over the city from the hill of the Ak-Sheikh Baba observation platform, once used as a patrol tower of the citadel.
Day 10 Tashkent
Transfer to the airport and take a flight back to Tashkent, spend the day at your leisure. Tonight join your fellow travellers for a final optional dinner and say farewell to this spectacular Silk Road country.
Day 11 Tashkent
Your trip comes to an end after breakfast.
