Classic Glacier Express - by rail from London

Day 1  London to Strasbourg, France     
Meet your Tour Manager and fellow travellers at St Pancras to take the Eurostar to Paris. Change trains and continue by speedy rail to Strasbourg for the night.    

Day 2  Strasbourg to Chur, Switzerland
Enjoy a morning at leisure in Strasbourg, before travelling by rail to Chur with a brief stop in Basel. Chur is Switzerland’s oldest town with over 5,000 years of history.        

Day 3  Bernina Express  
The Bernina Express is a spectacular route. Pass by huge glaciers, flower filled meadows and rushing mountain streams. Head south over the Landwasser Viaduct and gradually climb 2,133m over the Bernina Pass. Descend to colourful Poschiavo and explore the picturesque streets, before travelling back to Chur in time for dinner.        

Day 4  Chur  
Today is free to explore historic Chur and the surrounding region. You may choose to discover the area further by mountain railway with a number of routes available.        

Day 5  Chur to Brig  
Another day and another spectacular Swiss rail journey. This time you’ll board the Glacier Express, a famed route over the Oberalp Pass. The views of snow-capped peaks and sloping meadows are mesmerising, before the final part of the journey passes through pretty vineyards. Arrive in Brig for a four night stay.  

Day 6  Zermatt  
Today you’ll visit the charming town of Zermatt. Join a narrow-gauge railway following the beautiful River Rhône through the dramatic Matter Valley. On arrival at Zermatt, you may be rewarded with views of the Matterhorn. Tour the town with a local guide to uncover its history, before returning to Brig.

Day 7  Brig  
Spend today at leisure. Explore Brig’s charming historic centre or using your included discounted rail card, why not opt to venture further afield with the glamorous Swiss Riviera just 90 minutes away.  

Day 8  Spiez  
Journey by rail to arrive in the quaint town of Spiez. Discover Spiez Castle set on the crystal clear waters of Lake Thun. Cruise along Lake Thun’s turquoise waters before arriving in the enchanting town of Thun for a train back to Brig.        

Day 9  Brig to London  
Leave the stunning Swiss Alps behind as you journey via Geneva to Paris before taking the Eurostar back to London.
