Itinerary
Board the Eurostar at London’s St Pancras station and travel through the Channel Tunnel and French countryside, via Paris to Strasbourg. Arrive at your hotel and drop off your bags before heading out to explore the capital of the Alsace region. Make your way to picturesque La Petite France, a historic neighbourhood filled with traditional Alsatian half-timbered houses overhanging the five branches of the Ill River. Be sure to visit Maison des Tanneurs, which is spectacularly festooned with colourful geraniums from spring through to the autumn.
Day 2 Strasbourg
Described by Victor Hugo as a “gigantic and delicate marvel” Notre-Dame Cathedral was the tallest building in the world for over 200 years. Wonder at the remarkable carvings on the outside of the building and the ornate stained-glass windows. After watching the parade of the apostles at the Renaissance astronomical clock climb the 330 steps for sweeping views of the historic city. In the Grand Ille district discover the ornate Kammerzell House and the Palais Rohan, one of Strasbourg’s most iconic monuments, which now hosts a number of fascinating museums and galleries. This afternoon why not visit the remarkable ancient Cave des Hospices Strasbourg wine cellars, which contain the world’s oldest wine, served only three times in five centuries?
Day 3 Strasbourg
Today discover the European district, home to the imposing European Parliament building, Palace of Europe and the Court of Human Rights. Visit the Parlamentarium, Europe’s largest parliamentary visitors centre for a fascinating interactive history of the European project. Afterwards take a stroll the Orangerie Gardens, Strasbourg’s largest park. No trip to Strasbourg would be complete without eating at one of the many winstubs- casual Bistro’s that offer the full range of traditional Alsatian gastronomy. You can recognise them by their iconic red and white chequered tablecloths, and stemless rutscherle wineglasses.
Day 4 Strasbourg
Enjoy a final stroll through the labyrinthine quaint cobbled streets before returning to the station for your onward journey.
