Itinerary

Day 1  Board Fred Olsen Borealis in Southampton, UK

Days 2-4  Relaxing at sea

Day 5  Gibraltar
Nestled between Europe and Africa, Gibraltar makes for a fascinating visit with its traditionally British red post boxes and fish and chip shops, but with a delightful blend of Spanish influences. After wandering through the town, take the cable car to the top of the Rock for unrivalled views across to Africa, Spain, and over the Straits of Gibraltar. You will also encounter the famously mischievous Barbary macaques, Europe’s only wild monkey population.

Day 6  Cartagena, Spain
Cartagena beckons with its variety of historical sites, the undoubted highlight is the Roman amphitheatre, rediscovered in 1988 and located within the city. Admire the Art Nouveau buildings, enjoy a refreshing glass of Licor 43 at a local bar or café, then ascend to the top of Concepcion Castle via its panoramic lift for outstanding views across the harbour.

Day 7  Mallorca and Menorca scenic cruising

Day 8  Propriano, France
Propriano is a traditional Corsican town, with many 19th century buildings alongside the remains of Roman and Greek settlements. Close by is the scenic town of Sartene, with houses so tall they seem to be carved from the rockface, but also renowned for its highly rated wine, of which Rose is the most popular.

Day 9  Olbia, Italy
Explore the historic Olbia, including the striking Basilica of San Simplico, renowned for being one of the most important religious monuments in Sardinia, decorated with frescoes that date back to the 15th century. Nearby Costa Smeralda offers white sandy beaches and turquoise waters whilst the impressive Tombs of Giants can be seen at Nuraghe La Prisgiona.

Day 10  Sorrento
Sorrento’s rugged cliffs line the Amalfi Coast with Capri Island and Mount Vesuvius visible across the Bay of Naples. Many of the town’s structures date back to Roman times, including St. Francis Monastery and the Basilica di Sant’Antonio.

Day 11  Salerno
Salerno boasts centuries of rich history, influenced by the Romans, Goths and Byzantines. Walk through cobbled streets to discover the 11th century cathedral in Salerno, famous for its stunning artwork throughout. Finish the day watching the sunset over the Amalfi Coast.

Day 12  Maratea scenic cruising

Day 13  Cagliari
The ancient city is dominated by 5,000 years of history, from Roman ruins to Art Nouveau palaces, leading to the iconic hilltop citadel Il Castello, where the old medieval city is a maze of intriguingly narrow high-walled alleyways.

Days 14-15  Relaxing at sea

Day 16  Lisbon, Portugal
Sail along the River Tagus into Lisbon, admiring the prominent Portuguese landmarks such as the Belém Tower. On arrival, you will be ideally placed for wandering along the labyrinth of cobblestoned streets of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district. Take in the grandeur of São Jorge Castle and ride through the city on a vintage tram. You can also choose to visit the nearby fairy-tale like town of Sintra, set against the backdrop of rolling hills.

Days 17-18  Relaxing at sea

Day 19  Disembark in Southampton
