Itinerary

Day 1  Evia
Arrive in Athens and transfer to Rafina to catch the ferry to the island of Evia. Drive to Karystos and settle into your hotel for the week. Meet your fellow travellers and tour leader.

Day 2  Gourna & Karystos
Your first day takes you through Karystos town up to the villages of Gourna, which are scattered high above Karystos bay and below the peaks of Mount Ohi. Walk through the verdant countryside along worn-stone paths next to springs and streams. Continue to Castello Rosso, one of the grandest forts of the Fourth Crusade, where you can enjoy lunch with beautiful views of the Mediterranean.

Day 3  Platanistos
Drive towards the Cape of Cavo Doro, heading to the beautiful ravine of Platanistos and the first of 20 ancient villages of Albanian descent. We hike along the riverside path in the lush valley of Platanistos. We then continue our journey by bus (30 minutes) until we reach the sea and one of the nicest, yet still relatively unknown, beaches in the Aegean.

Day 4  Mount Kliosi & The Acropolis of Styra
Enjoy an early morning drive along the panoramic mountain road, known as the ‘Eagle Route’. Climb to Mount Kliosli’s summit and explore the ancient Acropolis - this often surrounded by mist giving it an eerie feel. Then take a gentle walk down to the quaint villages of Styra.

Day 5  Marmari & Karystos
Enjoy a relaxing morning exploring Marmari, with its splendid beach and tavernas. Spend the afternoon in the thriving market town of Karystos and visit its beautiful cathedral.

Day 6  Mount Ohi
Climb up on Mount Ohi following multi-trails and worn-marble paths to the heart of the Roman quarries where green and white marble known as cipollino.Ancient paths take us to the villages of upper and lower Aetos with superb views of the Aegean Sea all along the way.

Day 7  Mount Ohi
Today, take a walk on one of the oldest paths on the island, an ancient corridor within the gorge to the remote and wild beach on the east coast. Travel by taxi/coach to the isolated village of Agios Dimitrios on Mount Ohi, which is the starting point of the gorge walks.

Day 8  Mount Ohi to Athens
After breakfast you can visit a local beekeeper to learn about and taste Greek honey and its products. At midday transfer back to Athens airport for your onward arrangements.
