Walking the Amalfi Coast

Day 1  Naples
Fly to Naples and on arrival transfer to Bomerano for a warm welcome from your local hosts, the Acampora family, who run the Hotel Due Torri. Set in the village of Bomerano, it is a quaint retreat high in the hills and away from the often-busy Amalfi Coast below. Once everyone’s ready, enjoy a welcome briefing at the hotel – a great chance to get to know the group and meet your tour leader.  

Day 2  Monte Tre Calli Trail
Start today’s walk from the centre of Bomerano. The circular route provides a good chance to stretch our legs, before climbing to the top of Monte Tre Calli to be rewarded with wide-open views of the jagged coastline and seemingly endless blue sea. The Agerola Plain stretches out below and on a clear day, you may be able to see the island of Capri. After admiring the majestic scenery, descend to Bomerano and enjoy a rest before a hearty dinner.

Day 3  Amalfi
Today, walk towards the beautiful town of Amalfi along a path that follows the Mediterranean shores, accompanied by wonderful coastal views. On arrival take in the cathedral that dominates the town and is a typical example of regional architecture. Take time to explore the town, perhaps swim in the small bay or enjoy a gelato before a transfer by road back to Bomerano.

Day 4  Pompeii & Mount Vesuvius
This morning transfer to the slopes of Vesuvius to view the volcanic crater, which also overlooks the beautiful Bay of Naples. After lunch, travel by bus to Pompeii, a thriving port town until Vesuvius catastrophically erupted nearly 2,000 years ago. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the preserved remains providing an amazing insight into life in a Roman city. Choose to explore the site this afternoon, and perhaps opt for a detailed tour accompanied by a local guide.

Day 5  Ravello
Today’s walk begins in Ravello where there’s time to visit the landscaped gardens of the Villa Cimbrone. The route is mostly downhill, eventually reaching the village of Pontone. Continue along shady paths and through fragrant lemon groves of the Valle delle Ferriere National Park en route to the town of Amalfi.

Day 6  Bomerano
Enjoy a day at leisure to relax at the hotel or head to the seafront. Perhaps visit the ancient city of Herculaneum or choose to take a ferry to the chic island of Capri. Your tour leader will be able to help with arrangements, whatever you choose to do. Alternatively, you may simply relax by the pool.

Day 7  Walk of the Gods Trail
Renowned as one of the finest day walks in the world, the Walk of the Gods is a wonderful finale. The route provides some of the most evocative views in the world: ragged cliffs speckled with tiny villages and extensive vistas of the sparkling Mediterranean. Descend a long series of steps to colourful Positano. After a return transfer back to Bomerano late this afternoon, visit a family-run mozzarella factory, before enjoying a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers.

Day 8  Fly home
Transfer back to Naples airport in time for your flight home.
