Norway Highlights by Rail & Fjord Cruise: Oslo to Bergen

Days 1-2  Oslo    
Fly to Oslo and arrive in Norway’s capital. Make your way to your hotel before setting off to the explore the city. Blending old with new, you will find many architectural delights as you wander the compact city centre including the imposing Norwegian National Opera House positioned along the harbour. Learn about Oslo’s history at the Akershus Fortress or perhaps visit the Fram Museum and learn about fascinating polar explorations. Embark on your included Silent FjorCruise and admire as the scenery transforms to picturesque islands and quaint cottages. Once away from the city, the underwater drone will be deployed in search of life beneath the water.        

Day 3  Oslo to Flam        
This morning head to Oslo’s central train station to board the Bergen Railway. Find your allocated seats and settle down for a scenic journey across Norway’s countryside. You will pass incredible scenery, including the remote wilderness of Finse, a filming location for Star Wars with its stark glaciers and mountainscape. Disembark in the small mountain village of Myrdal where you will join the iconic Flam Railway. Considered one of the most beautiful rail routes in the world, this journey will take you high along the mountain side past flowing rivers and tumbling waterfalls until you reach the small fjord village of Flam.  Just a short walk from the train station, make your way to your hotel. Perhaps, enjoy a visit to the microbrewery, inspired by Norse mythology and built to replicate a stave church.          

Day 4  Flam        
Today, explore the village and the surrounding landscape. In the village itself you will find a selection of shops and restaurants while there are many outdoor activities to experience. Perhaps enjoy a hike or hire a bike and cycle through Flam Valley. Embark on a relaxing fjord cruise or explore the water by kayak. Try out the Flam zipline or a thrilling rib boat safari or perhaps visit the Flam Railway Museum.  

Day 5  Flam to Bergen        
Take a short walk to the port to board your fjord cruise to Gudvangen. This two hour journey will take you through one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Naeroyfjord. As you arrive into Gudvangen, take your bus to Voss where you will later rejoin the Bergen Railway and continue to Bergen. After checking in to your hotel, head out and explore the city’s highlights.          

Days 6-7  Bergen    
Venture through the UNESCO World Heritage listed district Bryggen adorned with museums, shops and galleries that leads to the picturesque harbourfront where you will find the historic fish market. Take your included cruise to Mostraumen, looking out for waterfalls as you glide through the Mostraumen Strait before returning to Bergen. In the evening, make your way to the Floibanen funicular which takes you up Mount Floyen for beautiful sunset panoramas of the city and beyond to the ocean.    

Day 8  Fly home
