Itinerary

Day 1  Trondheim, Norway
Fly to Trondheim and enjoy a leisurely evening with your group.

Day 2  Trondheim to Bodo
Board the Nordland Railway, popularly known as the Polar Express. Witness sunrise over wintry Norway, passing frozen lakes, snow-covered mountains, tranquil fjords and frosted forests as you cross the Arctic Circle. Arrive in Bodo and admire views over the idyllic marina before your group dinner.

Day 3  Bodo to The Lofoten Islands
This morning, enjoy a scenic coach journey to Bognes. From here, catch the ferry to Lodingen, in the Lofoten Islands. Disembark and enjoy a scenic drive to Svolvaer, the tiny capital of these stunning islands.  Often regarded as the pinnacle of Norway’s beauty, this collection of islands is made up of towering cliffs and wonderfully scenic fishing villages. Venture by coach in search of the wondrous Northern Lights before returning to the hotel for dinner.  If the weather is clear you will search again by coach for this elusive spectacle after dinner.

Day 4  The Lofoten Islands
Enjoy a scenic drive across Lofoten today, visiting the fishing village of Nusfjord and the traditional district of Vestvagoy which captures visitors hearts with its enchanting landscapes of sandy beaches and snowcapped mountains. After dinner it’s time to go in search again of the Northern Lights.

Day 5  The Lofoten Islands to Narvik
Return to the Norwegian mainland by coach and enjoy the dramatic views all the way to Narvik. Deep fjords accompany much of the route and are a spectacular sight, particularly on a sunny day.  The afternoon is free to spend at leisure.

Day 6  Narvik to Kiruna, Sweden
Today, travel on one of the world’s most northerly railway lines, the Ofoten Railway. Originally built to transport iron ore mined in Sweden, this historic line crosses barren plateaus and climbs steep mountainsides en route to Kiruna, a small town at the heart of Swedish Lapland.

Day 7  Kiruna
Travel to a traditional Sami village and spend time with the reindeer, listen to local folk tales and enjoy a Sami feast. Afterwards, visit Kiruna’s famous Ice Hotel for a drink in the ice bar.

Day 8  Kiruna to Lulea
Head towards the coast of Swedish Lapland to Lulea for a unique experience at a local husky farm. Head out on a sled ride with a pack of huskies at the helm as you travel through winter wonderful landscapes. Afterwards, you will also take part in a traditional Swedish ‘fika’, gathering around a campfire with a hot drink and a sandwich.
