Itinerary
Fly to Madeira. On arrival, a private transfer will transport you to your hotel in Funchal.
Days 2-3 Funchal
Discover cosmopolitan Funchal’s fusion of the traditional and modern. Wander the cobbled streets of the old town where historic architecture contrasts against impressive urban artworks. Be sure to visit the local restaurants to experience the thriving food scene and delicious regional produce. The following day, take a cable car to the hilltop town of Monte, and the remarkable Monte Palace Tropical Gardens for dramatic panoramic views.
Day 4 Funchal
Pick up your car and set out to discover the diverse landscapes and culture of the east of the island. Follow the coast road to take in the dramatic volcanic peninsula of Ponta de São Lourenço, then continue to the picturesque village of Santana, home to the iconic Casinhas de Santana. Return to Funchal via Pico do Areiro, one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the island.
Day 5 Funchal to Calheta
Leave Funchal and head west to your hotel in Calheta. En route, visit the enchanting Camara de Lobos Bay, a beautiful fishing village with colourful fishing boats bobbing on the water. Further along the coast lies Cabo Girão, Europe’s highest cliff at over 580m high.
Days 6-7 Calheta
Calheta is the perfect base to explore Madeira’s west coast, generally considered the sunniest part of the island: a perfect haven for those who love the sea and nature. Choose to relax at the hotel, or one of the many pebble or black sand beaches. For a more active adventure, nearby Rabaçal is the starting point for the Levada dos 25 Fontes walk, one of the most popular trails on the island, taking you through lush forests, 100m high waterfalls and incredible views.
Day 8 Fly home
This morning, drive to Funchal and drop off the car in time for your flight home.
