Portugal's Scenic Treasures

Day 1  Madeira              
Fly into Madeira, soaking up the sweeping views of the mountainous island centre as you land. Transfer to your hotel in Funchal and spend the rest of the day at leisure.          

Days 2-3  Madeira  
Funchal old town boasts a delightful mix of historic Portuguese architecture and manicured botanical gardens, contrasting against the rugged coastline and tropical island peaks. Enjoy two days exploring both the town and forests - why not take a jeep tour to visit the lesser discovered coasts to the north and west of the island? Back in Funchal wander traditional cobbled streets, take a ride on the cable car to the hilltop town of Monte and dine on delicious locally caught seafood.
       
Day 4  Madeira to Porto                
This morning you’ll fly over to the Portuguese mainland to the pastel hued city of Porto. On arrival stroll along the iconic Ribeiro waterfront, enjoying the views and holiday atmosphere. This afternoon why not take a tour of one of the famous port cellars and try a tasting or two.

Day 5  Porto              
Perhaps start your day exploring the historic centre on the north side of the Douro River. Stop off at the famous Livraria Lello bookshop to see the stunning stained glass windows and Art Nouveau architecture said to have inspired JK Rowling’s work. This afternoon join your group Porto Food and Wine Tour, getting under the skin of this eclectic city.  

Day 6  Porto to Douro Valley        
Today pick up your car and drive east to the picturesque Douro region. Allow plenty of time for photo stops as you follow the lazily winding river through scenic vineyards.

Day 7  Douro Valley        
Spend the day relaxing amongst the vines and soaking up the beautiful views. Maybe board a river cruise to admire the miles of terraces from the water or take a drive out to enjoy a peaceful walk, taking in the scenery at your leisure.

Day 8  Fly home              
Enjoy a morning walk through the vines before a leisurely drive back to Porto in time for your flight home.
