Itinerary
Welcome to Romania! Arrive into Bucharest airport and make your way to your hotel. After checking in, perhaps start to explore the tree lined boulevards and admire the stunning architecture of the Belle Époque buildings. In the evening, why not try some delectable local food in one of the traditional restaurants?
Days 2-3 Bucharest
Over the next two days opt to learn about the incredible history running through the veins of this intriguing capital city, stroll down Calea Victoriei, the city’s oldest street and visit Cantacuzino Palace, said to be one of the most beautiful buildings on the street. Traverse Revolution Square, to see Romania’s communist party’s former headquarters or choose to visit the former royal palace, now a national art museum. Locate the remains of the old Princely Court, where it is thought that Vlad the Impaler kept his prisoners in dungeons. If you want a break from history, opt to relax in central Europe’s largest thermae spa.
Day 4 Bucharest to Brasov
After breakfast, pick up your car from the downtown depot and make your way to Brasov. On your journey, why not drive the Transfargarasan Highway, Romania’s most spectacular road spanning 150km and offering breathtaking scenery? Upon arrival in Brasov, check into your hotel and head out to a local restaurant to indulge in some tasty traditional cuisine.
Days 5-6 Brasov
This morning, rise early and drive to Bran Castle, an extraordinary structure perched on top of a cliff, surrounded by mystery and legend, depicted to be the home of Count Dracula from Bram Stoker’s iconic gothic horror novel. Uncover the history of the impressive structure which over time has been a fortress, a custom’s house and a royal residence. Choose to head over to Peles Castle, an impressive building with gorgeous surroundings nestled at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains and commissioned by King Carol I in 1873. Discover the first European castle to have electricity, be amazed at the 30,000 books in the library and explore the gorgeous surroundings. As Romania is home to the largest brown bear population in Europe, perhaps decide to join a bear watching tour to observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Day 7 Brasov
After breakfast, drive back to Bucharest to drop off the car and continue with your onward journey.
