Slovenia's Lakes & Mountains

Day 1  Ljubljana, Slovenia      
Once you’ve arrived at Ljubljana airport, pick up your car and head for the city centre. Check into your hotel, your base for the next two nights, before heading out to explore this vibrant city. Renowned as one of Europe’s greenest capitals, why not enjoy a walk through the beautiful Tivoli Park, the city’s largest.                

Day 2   Ljubljana                
Step back in time this morning at Ljubljana Castle, which sits on a hilltop overlooking Ljubljana. Ride the funicular to the top to discover this historic fortress, which dates back to the 11th Century. This afternoon, sample local produce at the city’s lively farmers market before strolling through Ljubljana’s lovely Old Town.              

Day 3  Lake Bled              
This morning, leave the city behind you and drive into Slovenia’s breathtaking countryside to the famous Bled. A sparkling lake enveloped by forested mountains, Lake Bled has stepped straight out of a fairy tale. After a spot of lunch, enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake and admire the spectacular scenery.                

Day 4  Lake Bled              
This morning, perhaps jump aboard a traditional pletna rowing boat and ride to the lake’s iconic church-topped island. Take some time to explore this tiny, tear-shaped island and the picturesque Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria. This afternoon climb up to Bled’s stunning castle. Perched high on a cliff above Bled, enjoy awe-inspiring views of the lake from the castle ramparts and learn about the area’s history in its museum.                

Day 5  Lake Bohinj                
After a leisurely morning, drive just 30 minutes to your next stop beside the beautiful Lake Bohinj. Nestled within the Triglav National Park amidst dense forests and soaring peaks, stunning Bohinj is the largest natural lake in Slovenia. Once you’ve checked into your hotel, head towards the lakefront. For spectacular, panoramic views of the valley, join one of the eco-friendly boat tours across the lake and, if you’re feeling energetic, return via the peaceful forest walking trail on the lake’s northern shore.                

Day 6  Lake Bohinj              
Today head into the heart of the Triglav National Park and ascend Mount Vogel via the cable car at the head of the Bohinj Valley. Crisp mountain air, breathtaking views and a plethora of hiking trails await you at the top. Later perhaps visit the Savica Waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful in Slovenia.      

Day 7  Lake Bohinj              
On your final full day, visit the Mostnica Gorge, one of Slovenia’s finest natural wonders. Nestled within the Voje Valley just northeast from Lake Bohinj, the gorge stretches for 2 km and features walking trails along either side, ideal for admiring the crystal clear, emerald waters and the gorge’s fascinating rock formations, flora and fauna.          

Day 8  Lake Bohinj            
Enjoy a leisurely morning with a final look at this spectacular landscape, before heading back to Ljubljana airport to return your car and catch your flight home.
