Itinerary
Day 1 Geneva
Board the Eurostar at St Pancras Station bound for Paris. Cross the city and continue your journey from Gare de Lyon direct to Geneva, arriving mid-afternoon. Check in to your hotel and perhaps take a walk by the lake to spot the Jet d’Eau – the 140 metre fountain that has become an icon of the city.
Day 2 Geneva to Lausanne
This morning why not visit one of the cities fascinating museums. Learn all about Geneva’s place as the cradle of Swiss watchmaking at the Patek Philippe Museum, or catch the tram to CERN and discover the hands on science museum and home of the Large Hadron Collider.
In the afternoon pick up your car and take the short drive to Lausanne. Built on three hills beside the shores of Lake Geneva, this lovely town boasts picturesque views of the Savoy Alps and is surrounded by the terraces of the UNESCO Lavaux Vineyards. After checking in, wander the old town and explore the alleyways of the medieval city centre.
Day 3 Lausanne
Today, why not take a walk to the lively waterfront area of Ouchy, where visitors and locals alike stroll the tree-lined promenade. Home to the International Olympic Committee, perhaps pay a visit to the Olympic Museum and discover the history of these iconic games, before relaxing in the Olympic Park.
Day 4 Lausanne
For wine enthusiasts, perhaps spend an afternoon exploring the nearby Lavaux terraced vineyards, a beautiful sight boasting UNESCO World Heritage status and producing delectable Swiss wine. With lakefront cellars offering tours and tastings, you may want to leave your car at the hotel today and opt for the train!
Day 5 Lausanne to Montreux
After a final morning in Lausanne, enjoy a relaxing drive along the lake to Montreux. Boasting an idyllic hillside setting, sloping towards Lake Geneva, check in to your hotel before exploring the traditional markets and historic architecture of the old town, or perhaps head to the lakefront and enjoy a relaxing paddle-steamer cruise.
Day 6 Montreux
Hop in your car and make your way to the renowned Château de Chillon, set on the rocky shore of Lake Geneva. Discover the castle’s fascinating history, dating back to the 12th Century, as you admire the impressive interiors.
Days 7-8 Montreux Riviera
With so much to discover along the Montreux Riviera, spend your final days exploring at your leisure. Head into the surrounding hills for adventurous hiking and biking trails alongside epic views. A visit to Vevey, the pearl of the Swiss Riviera, is a must – take in the remarkable Alimentarium food museum- easily found by the giant fork in the lake, or visit Chaplin’s world, a museum dedicated Vevey’s most famous resident Charlie Chaplin. If the weather allows perhaps spend a lazy afternoon at one of the region’s lakefront beaches or public swimming pools.
Day 9 Montreux to London
Take a final stroll along the lakefront before returning to Geneva to drop off your car and get your train back to London.
