Itinerary
Day 1 Zurich
Board the Eurostar at London St Pancras and travel under the channel to Paris. Cross the city by Metro to Gare de Lyon. The train journey from Paris to Zurich speeds you through Dijon, the major city of the Burgundy region, then high speed through the pretty villages and rolling hills of the rural French countryside on the new high-speed Rhine-Rhone line. Arrive into Zurich and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 St. Gallen
Pick up your car from the station hand head to historic St. Gallen. En route, marvel at the spectacular Rhine Falls near the picturesque town of Stein am Rhein before continuing along the shore of Lake Constance to this charming university town.
Days 3-4 St. Moritz
Enjoy epic vistas on your way to St. Moritz. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and brimming with upscale eateries and boutiques, this beautiful resort boasts a glamorous reputation. Spend two days exploring, perhaps taking a gentle boat cruise across the lake or a cable car ride to the summit of Piz Nair.
Days 5-6 Lugano
Drive through majestic Alpine scenery to the lakeside town of Lugano in Mediterranean influenced Ticino. Today you could board the cable car to the summit of Monte Brè, join a cruise on Lake Lugano or simply drink in the lake views with a cold spritz in hand.
Days 7-9 Zermatt
On your way to Zermatt drive the dramatic, serpentine Furka Pass, one of the most scenic mountain passes in the Swiss Alps, set beneath the iconic Matterhorn. As Zermatt is car-free, park in nearby Täsch and make your way to the town. The following day, embrace Switzerland's scenery on board its iconic cogwheel train. The Gornergrat transports you to an altitude of 3,089m across stunning bridges, idyllic forests and mountain lakes with stops along the way as you admire views of the Matterhorn dominating the sky.
Days 10-12 Interlaken
Head to Interlaken in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. and spend the next two days exploring the lakes and peaks of the surrounding area. Hire a kayak and take to Lake Brienz with a small group for a spectacular view of the snow-capped mountains.
Head up to Europe’s highest altitude railway station at Jungfraujoch. Known as the ‘Top of Europe’, absorb the awesome scenery including a view of the Aletsch Glacier. From April to November chose to see the Lake from above on the celebrated Harder Kulm Funicular railway.
Days 13-14 Interlaken to Lucerne
After action-packed Interlaken, head to Lucerne, a charming lakeside city boasting historic architecture, excellent shopping and dining and stunning mountain vistas. Be sure to visit the iconic Chapel Bridge, first built in the 14th Century, and take in the remarkable preserved interior paintings rescued from fire in 1993.
Outside the city take the Mount Rigi cable car before boarding the world’s steepest cogwheel railway to the summit of Mount Pilatus, the mythical mountain of dragons. After taking in the views, why not brave all 1350 metres of Switzerland’s longest toboggan run.
Day 15 Lucerne to Zurich
Take the gentle drive back to Zurich. En route why not detour to the Lindt Home of Chocolate museum, featuring a spectacular multi-story chocolate fountain and the largest chocolate shop in the world at over 500 square metres!
In the afternoon return your car and explore the city by foot: perhaps take in the famous Fraumünster church with its famous stained class windows by Marc Chagall, or discover the culinary delights and picturesque alleyways of the historic old town.
Day 16 Zurich to London
In the morning board your train to begin your journey back to London via Paris.
